Δύο υπέροχα αθάνατα τραγούδια από δύο τεράστιους μουσικούς και δύο τεράστιους καλλιτέχνες τον αείμνηστο Γρηγόρη Μπιθικώτση καί την εκπληκτική Νανά Μούσχουρη νά είσαι καλά που το ανέβασες μπράβο σου να είσαι καλά που τα ανέβασες καλησπέρα

Listened to this beautiful song when posted to Cyprus in 1969/70.I didn't have a clue to the words but just felt it. One of my favorites. I bought a 45 rpm of it & had it for many years. Thank You-Song can cross barriers of language. HP

I agree... I was posted there 1965/1967. I learned the words over quite a long period and can now sing it in Greek. Some years ago I attended a choir competition in Budapest, and it included a Greek ladies choir (in beautiful traditional costume) who sang this song in the contest and afterwards at a communal bun-fight. I got up and stood with them and sang along. They were totally surprised that an English bloke could do that. Trouble was - they assumed I could speak Greek and nattered away to me without me understanding a word! Anyway - a good time was had by all....

O Kaimos.

Thank you so much for the translation of this song. The italian version was always being played at home when I was young and although I understood the words ( My Mama is Italian) - I did not understand the context of the song. It makes sense to me now and I don't think the beautiful, haunting lyrics will ever leave me.

Thank you for your kind words. Greek version (O Kaimos - The sorrow) and Italian version (Un fiume amaro) share the same context. Moreover, the refrain of both versions have exactly the same meaning, something rare with songs in different languages. This is the reason I put the Greek version along with the Italian (refrain). Peace!

If the translation to this extremely sad song is to be taken seriously then I am not surprised that after 50 years of living in the UK people still can't pronounce my name correctly, a pity then that national treasures such as this song represent go unnoticed by people around the world because of translation carried out by 3 year olds, thank God I was born Greek. Miki we love you.

Δεν σας είδα να κάνετε προσπάθεια. Παρά μόνο εγωπαθείς αναφορές για το όνομά σας και κρίσεις - κατακρίσεις, έστω για μια ειλικρινή, αφελή προσπάθεια προσπάθεια. Σας αφήνω στη μοναξιά της εγωπαθειάς σας και στον ξινό ελιτισμό σας.

the only way these so called "tranlated" lyrics make any sense is if english is NOT your first language.TIP: do not attempt tinkering with any perfect work of art, you cannot do it justice. leave it alone, enjoy it for what it is.
