Keep in mind that the main purpose of these videos is to help folks learn harmony parts to hymns and not to sound perfect. These recordings will sound a touch raw for a few reasons; I am not a trained singer, I am using very simple recording hardware, my recording 'studio' is a coat closet that is just big enough for me to fit in. ( :
If you enjoy the way that these hymns are sang and want to experience them in person, stop by just about any church of Christ and they'll likely be singing them the same way. Without instruments.
My recording process:
-Record each part on a Rode NT1-A on to a Zoom H4 recorder
-Some pitch correction in Melodyne
-Mix in Mixcraft 6
-Combine audio and sheet music in Corel VideoStudio X7
-Music is typeset in Finale 2012 by me or borrowed from PDHymns.com

To my knowledge, most of the hymns that I record and post are public domain (except the ones I've obtained permission for). If you notice one that is NOT public domain, let me know as soon as possible so that I can take that video down.

This is a wonderful resource for learning. The singers sound a bit robotic. I don't know, they may be computer generated. But they are valuable because they are singing what is written. There are none of the affectations of modern music... no scooping or growling. It is a great way to learn the hymn as it is written here.

I should clarify that I do not think the "robotic" sound is bad. What kind of editing software do you use? I noticed in the page introduction that it appeared you were able to move tone vibrations around... an interesting ability!

I don't think this sounds "robotic" at all. It's just sung as what's written on the score. For all the trolls out there who criticize the guy, keep in mind that he is singing all the voice parts super-imposed on the recording, so the hymn is not going to have the same expression as a full male a-capella quartet, but it gets pretty close. Most hymns you lookup on KZbin are distorted by crappy and corny arrangements. This is just plain and simple music, exactly what you would read when you open a SATB hymnal. Great job man, keep these videos coming

Is there a place where we can download the sheet music that goes with your various playlists (I'm singing along with them all at the moment ;-) The reason is I want to sing them with my mother-in-law, but she has no computer, so I will extract the audio and make a CD that we can play and then sing from the sheet music... if it's available. Thanks very much, a great and wonderful resource that I've been enjoying for a while now.
