This brings flooding back memories of standing in my school's Anglican church in South London as a 10/11 year old and it being dark and cold outside, with the time nearing Christmas and all the excitement that brought, sitting with my friends and singing this carol. It brings a tear to my eye... love it.

I'm not religious but God bless you to everyone at Christmas. These carols always remind me what the holidays should really be about - family, love, happiness and appreciating what you have in life. To everyone reading this - regardless of your religious faith or lack of it - have a merry Christmas and a very happy new year.

I agree. Christmas has become something perverse and disgusting for the most part, but these songs remind me of what it truly should be, not presents and greed and material possessions.

Hey Ma'am, So you've ascended up, many thanks for leaving that double rainbow, may you continue to shine over us, you and your good husband 🌈🌈 😇💎💯. I had to laugh today (it been kinda difficult over the last month) It's reckoned that you were fond of Churchill and Wilson✊🏼✊🏼🌹- I just glad you didn't mind the smoking (sshh😉) I'm a lot better now, thanks for the leniency. Ma'am only now catching up with you and ONJ's Christmas messages. I just couldn't at the time; I just couldn't..... I was just too frightened. The sorrow/ heartache your eyes Ma'am and Liv looking ohh so radiant and ohh so ready🎗. I didn't want to deal with it then. Thanks for sticking around for your Platinum 👑🥳🎉and the sketch with Paddington 🧸☺👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 was very touching 😌. I kinda got ya with your hopes and fear of all the years. A good woman like you, what did you fear ?? I know, I might get one of stupid jobs things. I KNOW 🤣🤣🤣!!! Buses and Christmases you can keep 'em! Conventionality belongs to the here and now. Once again sincere gratitude for that pardon for my appalling behaviour on Social Media, I really was pushed to the limit. I do plan to tie up loose end with the Ombudsman/HMRC. In regards to the Honour for my saviour (please forgive for his ignorant/naive way at times). I could see the wounded night skies had to heal. I was such in a rock and a hard place with my saviour's citation.I just couldn't tell him, I just couldn't.....Bless him, he has been so patient, kinda!🏆🥇. It made my self abuse worst. Not that I blame anybody, especially you Ma'am. Once again thank you for your tolerance. Despite being grief stricken, King Charles lll is doing ok so far. I hope he works well with the Cabinet Office. As for peace on Earth, I think we have progress with Bros Windsor's and their wive, they are speaking- I know 😂!!! I'll sign off for now Ma'am. You need time to settle in 👼🏻, meet the greats and be reunited with your Philip. Tell him I say hey 👋🏾 😊and I'll always miss him. Take it easy Tiger 🐯. Liv xx

[Verse 1] O little town of Bethlehem How still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep The silent stars go by Yet in the dark street shineth The everlasting Light The hopes and fears of all the years Are met in thee tonight [Verse 2] For Christ is born of Mary And gathered all above While mortals sleep, the angels keep Their watch of wondering love O morning stars, together Proclaim the holy birth And praises sing to God, the King And peace to men on earth [Verse 3] How silently, how silently The wondrous Gift is given! So God imparts to human hearts The blessings of His heaven No ear may hear His coming But in this world of sin Where meek souls will receive Him still The dear Christ enters in [Verse 4] O holy Child of Bethlehem Descend to us, we pray Cast out our sin and enter in Be born in us today We hear the Christmas angels The great glad tidings tell Oh, come to us, abide with us Our Lord Immanuel!

Some sad comments around here :( Does it really matter what and why we celebrate? And does it matter when we do it? Do we need a rational and proven reason for being kind, gentle, open to our keen and to our neighbour (regardless of his creed) or even to a total stranger? Must we restrain from anything but reasoning or better said, the lack of it? It's like feelings of warmth, peace, joy are something to be ashamed of. Pitiful asleep souls... Merry Christmas to everyone!

@MyFaceBurns Actually, there is documented proof that Jesus lived, and we know that he was actually born around March. Christians are celebrating the birth of the Founder of our religion, and it doesn't matter when we celebrate it. The Queen has two birthdays, and we still celebrate the one that isn't when she was born. How is this any different.

No one's saying it is, calm down. In the UK there is a different style of verse and singing this carol, therefore it is an English version here. That doesn't mean it has become an English carol for heaven's sake! You could almost say the same about the English language itself, there are words and spellings that you have over there that are never used over here. But they are used because that is your way, it doesn't mean that it is always correct though.

John Hintergardt Well it's certainly the carol I remember singing at school with ''The hopes and fears of all the years are met in you tonight'' etc to this tune. It is also the same song that my children were singing at the school nativity concert last Christmas - my son was one of the shepherds EDIT Oh, just read some of the other comments and I come from the UK - it seems as though it's different in the USA. Why do Americans seem to assume that only their version is the correct version?
@szymongorczynski76218 жыл бұрын
+nicknick5465 Because 'Murica. That's why.
@ClaudiaNW6 жыл бұрын
There are two different settings. Americans sing it to the original tune - the carol was composed in the 1860s by an Episcopal priest in Philadelphia, Phillips Brooks, and his organist Lewis Redner wrote the music. But the tune you're hearing here is the British setting, Forest Green, which was composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams (you may have heard of his other works such as Five Variations on Dives and Lazarus). It's one of several carols which is sung to different tunes in the US and UK.
@nintendonerdsvideos47276 жыл бұрын
Forest Green is much easier to play too, I know of church musicians who dread having to play the tune we all know better
@ladyfoxwf10754 жыл бұрын
Can someone tell me how to sing this song, it's either too high or low, how do I sing in the middle? It's just a strain on my voice. I'm not out of tune, just unable to use my vocal range (if I have one lol) Also at the end of every line I have ran out of breath and it just sounds breathy. How does everyone in church sound good EXCEPT FOR ME!!!I can sing it perfectly fine differently, I don't how to describe that, but the best way I can is if I want to sing it how I sing it, it would be out oftune with how it's played here.

@ladyfoxwf10754 жыл бұрын
@@gerrywilliams9997 That's easy for you to say, you are a male, you can sing low with ease. The way women have to sing it is REALLY high! Also I'm pretty sure 'can't sing' is a phrase used for people who are out of tune or very unappealing to hear, not those with a limited vocal range. But whatever you say. Also if you're going to reply say something USEFUL next time. :)

@@gerrywilliams9997 And I never suggested you meant anything to do with gender, my point is, the way it is sung at my church, the men don't have to sing very low, but the women have to sing very high, making it easier for the men to sing the song.
