Moutinho did alright on short notice in front of a giant crowd on liveTV. Dude was probably nervous as hell, and had a great chin.

The only thing Moutinho showed was that he's got a ridiculous chin and is way too tough for his own good. Other than that, he had nothing for O'Malley as he landed hardly any strikes and the ones that did inflicted no damage. The only reason people gave him props is because he survived for almost 3 rounds and didn't take a backwards step. Moutinho was given a huge step down in competition in his next fight as a reward by the UFC for stepping up on short notice against O'Malley, he got TKO'd in the first round against a 42 year old 8-6 fighter.

He doesn’t move his head at all and I thought he might’ve gotten better if the UFC gave him a chance but obviously not but props to him for taking the O Malley fight 10 days notice and walking through it like a beast!

It was a calculated and intentional stoppage by Herb Dean even though he knew it would be controversial. He stopped it because Sean was “landing at will” in the final sequences and Mouthinho was not “demonstrating intelligent defense” although he was still occasionally throwing punches.. Mouthinho is simply too tough for his own good, the lights weren’t going out but he was absorbing tremendous concussive trauma.

I don't know how anyone can argue with this stoppage as this fight could have been stopped several times, but with as late as the ref did let this one go on, it really should have gone to decision, this was not a KO/TKO.

Timeframe aside it was a good stoppage. Sean was smashing him at will from the beginning. But with 30 seconds left, why not let it go? The reason I can think of not to, is that Sean, knowing he was in complete control, might've gone for a big knockout near the end, and probably would've landed it. Which would've been awesome to see, but a bit much to let him inflict when the guy has clearly already lost.

I find it so funny that O'malley literally had an entire highlight reel performance setting new UFC records yet the commentary is finding anything to say about Kris. Plus Herb robbed O'malley of getting a celebration full finish. Instead Herb turned the crowd on O'malley and it wasn't Sean's fault. He just put on the biggest beat down I've ever seen. This is a striking, endurance, movement masterpiece.

And I'm an O'malley fan (strictly as a fighter not his friendship w 69), but the way he stayed in Sean's face the entire fight and made Sean work for everything and use all his energy while telling him "fuck you" in the process was perhaps my favorite moment of 2021 lol. And the fact that it was his UFC debut on a fucking McGregor main card against maybe the second most popular guy on the card and he went in there and did that... I was honestly blown away and he deserved to finish that fight.
