lovely dancers. and i love that their teacher is actually wearing the proper dance shoes...must be nice

I keep coming back to this... there's something about the fact that their steps are so much more musical than a lot of the stuff I hear/see today, as well as the fact that their teacher is a musician who clearly cares a lot about interpreting the music through the dance, that really gets to me. I could talk everyone's ears off about how much I wish musicality took precedence over athleticism in today's dance scene.

Well there's an irish dance club at the school i'm going to next year which i'll probably do, but i don't really have the time or money to take the classes i'd need to actually get somewhat competitive again, not to mention buy another dress and wig if i did start competing.I know you can start dancing at any age and go far, but i always regret quitting when i did because if i didn't i probably could've gotten pretty good and not have to start from scratch, like i would if i started again now.

I regret quitting Irish dance so much! I miss it and love watching it, but almost being 18 its pretty impossible to go back to it now and actually get good again:/

HM - not at all. I started Irish Dancing in my 30s and I went from novice to open in just under 5 years. I just did it to keep fit at first then started competing. I won loads of trophies too. Not bad for an old bird!!! 😁

HM I started “late,” because I started when I was nearly ten. Now, at 13, I’m in open and I’m very glad I didn’t listen to the teacher from my first dance school, who basically said I’d never get here

I've seen so many school jackets similar to ours! It's a popular color combo, I guess. It's annoying at majors, though, 'cause I keep thinking I see people from my school.

I’ve been doing it less than a year so not ready to compete yet. If I do...no wigs, no diamanté, no fake tan. I’m a simple style girl. It should be about the dancing not the costumes.
@ramywiles4 жыл бұрын
That's about where I'm at, if/when I go back to competing -- as simple as possible, with attention to tradition in my appearance and musicality in my steps.

He's talking out his backside. I danced forty years ago and our dancing attire were embroidered with beautiful Celtic designs and our cloaks were pinned with lovely Tara brooches. We all had our hair in ringlets and all schools had their own colours.
@mjw123457 жыл бұрын
Yes, some embroidery, celtic designs, Tara brooch but nothing like the total horse manure in some places now with the horrific, horrific, ghoulish, Jack the Ripper wigs and dresses splayed out like sheets of concrete with not an ounce of spontaneity or creativity.
@ramywiles4 жыл бұрын
40 years ago back when this was filmed was 1970, and my guess is that he was throwing out ballpark figures rather than exact numbers. His point about tradition being a moving target stands.
