Richie Stephens is a popular jamaican singer and producer , GRAMMY AWARD winner; with Motown and other prestigious label background, where also Rihanna recently sampled the “Sail Away” riddim produced by his own label Pot of Gold in her single Work, interpret the song that symbolizes the Neapolitan repertoire.
More Than one year ago the unstoppable reggae singer created, in conjunction with ADRIATIC SOUND, young label owned by producers and singers Rankin Lele & Papa Leu (grown up artistically with Sud Sound System), and an ensamble of 9 of the most renowed musicians in Salento and involving them in the RICHIE STEPHENS AND SKANATION project.
From this collaboration they come up with the album “INTERNATIONALLY", released last april and entirely dedicated to ska, original music genre originated in Jamaica. Internationally has been promoted in Tokio, Japan, last may and in few months the tour reached Haiti, Jamaica and Italy where Richie Stephens and Skanation performed many time to promote their new project.
“ INTERNATIONALLY” had an excellent international feedback and has been on the top of many chart, same as 2 singles Fire Fire and Internationally videoclip, especially Internationally has gone as viral dance in japan where is actually smashing up every reggae party.
Internationally, also, has been played and still being played in various radio station worldwide like BBC1xtra in London, IRIE fm, KOOL fm, VYBZ fm in Jamaica, Linkaje Radio New York, 90.9FM New Jersey, Wavs 1170 Florida, played in many other radio in California, Caribbean and south america.
Still in many chart I TUNES, BBC1xtra, New York top 40 chart, Weekly Star top 10.
After 2 months in Salento , costantly close to Skanation, Richie already lover of italian opera singers sound, started to get close to opera and traditional music , especially neapolitan and salentina. Totally lost in these genre with strong cultural roots that those genre represent, decided again with the inseparables Rankin Lele & Papa Leu.
Poliedric Richie Stephens pay tribute to our country through one of the most popular song worldwide “O SOLE MIO” released officialy back in 1898.
This is the first time in history where a jamaican artist performed a song entirely in old neapolitan language.
In Less than a week Richie studied at his best the way to use his voice , pronunciation and the magic mean of the song and recorded the song in only 45 minutes.
To perform the song at the best, Richie Stephens , collaborated with some of the greatest master and teachers : the mandolin player Antonio Calsolaro (one of the major frontman of the salento traditional music by 3 generation, violin player Roberta Mazzotta which has been member of Cherubini Orchestra (directed by Riccardo Muti), the Tenor singer Raffaele Pastore from La Fenice in Venice and Petruzzelli theater in Bari.
Strong by his project with the duo Rankin Lele & Papa Leu , Stephens wanted to propose this new version of “O SOLE MIO” in Ska key,
Skanation band created the perfect sound capable to blend and harmonizes to the maximum with a song so popular on a planetary level.
A tribute to italian’s music heritage and culture that states the stong legacy between Jamaica and our country.
It will be available in all the major online store and platform from the 25th of september: the single, dancehall remix and videoclip directed by Federico Giannace, shoot between the GIOVANNI PAISIELLO theater in lecce and the old village of Specchia in Lecce.

Well, you sure have a great sense of humor and a nice powerful voice. However, don't you dare cheat on us and use autotune to fake the ending high notes man! That was way too obvious! This may pass for dome casual relaxing reggae and pop music, but if you are serious enough to tap into the real world of serious classical singing, bel canto style, my friend, you got a long road ahead and you've got to get your acts together and take serious classical singing and all that... by thw way, your "Neapolitan", not "Italian", is way way off, man, just can't fool the real Neapolitans, and certainly not the Italians either... well, maybe also am odd one or two trained classical vocalists like me... perhaps. No offense, really, no offense meant. I just hope with all the talent you've already got, can get some serious genuine advice from some total stranger who knows a thing or two about classical singing, and brave enough to "break the facts", so to speak, and cut the icing on the cake, that is, the usual, generic, polite, and not sincere praises. Hope this might help you get a step up and make you even a greater singer in the future! God bless!

UNA GIORNATA DI SOLE A MILANO ('O SOLE MIO E BUONA PASQUA) *UGO FRIGERIO* è stato un grande italiano ed un grande milanese: il primo campione nella storia della marcia italiana. Ma non un " _Campione cosí...._ " è stato un " _Campione cosí! così! cosí!_ ": *3 ori ed un bronzo* alle *Olimpiadi di Anversa (1920), Parigi (1924) e Los Angeles (1932).* Tagliava il traguardo al grido « *Viva l'Italia!* » non solo nelle gare all'estero ma anche in quelle disputate sul territorio italiano. A fine carriera intraprese l'attività di imprenditore nel settore dei formaggi. Morì a Garda, in una giornata di sole, il 7 luglio 1968 a 66 anni, ma era milanese, un grande milanese. Nel *1920* , ad *Anversa* , alla premiazione della sua *prima medaglia d'oro* , alla presenza di RE ALBERTO del BELGIO, la *banda belga* che doveva eseguire l'inno italiano smarrí lo spartito della *Fanfara e marcia reale d'ordinanza dell'esercito italiano* , allora inno nazionale del REGNO D'ITALIA dall'unificazione del Paese (1861) fino alla caduta della monarchia sabauda (1946), composto nel 1831 dal torinese Giuseppe Gabetti proprio per i Savoia. Il direttore si costernó e si adoperò a trarsi dall'impaccio, una situazione di forte imbarazzo che poteva portare a danni diplomatici incalcolabili. Era difficile avere la " *_comprensione internazionale_* " su una giustificazione tipo " _Qualcuno ha dimenticato lo spartito... una folata di vento ha portato via i fogli della marcia reale italiana...."_ Allora chiese agli orchestrali cosa conoscessero di musica italiana da poter utilizzare al momento e tutti, sottovoce, " _Direttore, 'O sole mio_ ". " _Si! 'O sole mio di Capurro e Di Capua! Come non ci avevo pensato?_ " esclamò il maestro a voce viva ed animo soddisfatto. Bisbiglió all'orecchio al violinista che gli stava vicino alla ronda di direzione, il violinista al fagottista, il fagottista al suonatore di corno, da orecchio a orecchio ormai erano pronti ad eseguire il brano per la premiazione del campione olimpionico della marcia l'italiano Ugo Frigerio. Il campione salí sul podio più alto, fermo con mento al petto continuava a ripetere in estasi a se stesso «Viva l'Italia!» «Viva l'Italia!» «Viva l'Italia!», e alle prime note alzò gli occhi al cielo fiammingo le nubi si allinearano creando un corridoio e da lí cascó sulla sua fronte un raggio di sole. La banda parti a memoria, senza spartito, e tutti, non solo i musicisti ma tutti-tutti gli spettatori dello stadio, prima a bocca chiusa la melodia e poi a gran voce le parole. Frigerio si commosse e alla presenza di Alberto, re del Belgio, disse: " *Che bella cosa na jurnata 'e sole!... Viva l'Italia!"* Quando ritorno in Italia, a Milano, raccontó il fatto ma i milanesi, salvo la mamma e la sorella di Frigerio, non credettero alla questione della sostituzione dell'inno nazionale con la canzone napoletana composta dal giornalista Giovanni Capurro per la nobil donna Anna Maria Vignati-Mazza detta "Nina", sposa del Senatore Giorgio Arcoleo e vincitrice a Napoli del primo concorso di bellezza della città partenopea. Questo anche perché a Milano era difficile abbinare il sole con qualsiasi cosa. Sicuramente non ad una giornata sempre nebbia, pioggia, umidità. A Milano, in quel periodo e parliamo degli anni venti del secolo scorso tutte le canzoncine, i racconti in osteria o i giochi tra ragazzi e, perfino, corteggiamenti tra morosi terminavano con un *_"E ora 'ndem a lavurá!"._* Capite la prospettiva? A questa incredulità sul suo racconto ( _se non si comprendeva la cosa era una medaglia a metà_ ) il campione olimpionico attaccava a cantare *"O' Sole mio"*, ovviamente come la possono cantare i milanesi ma succedeva sempre **_(e qui vi è la mirabilia)_** che il cielo milanese si apriva è il sole diradava nebbia ed umidità. Sempre, accadeva sempre, al punto che quando, raramente, usciva il sole a Turlo, Greco, Sesto San Giovanni, Porta Venezia, Sempione, Lorenteggio i Milanesi, ma tutti i milanesi, dicevano " ***_Ma che bravo Ugo Frigerio a vincere la medaglia olimpionica peró è bravo anche a cantare"._* *A prescindere se "O sole mio" sia una canzone ucraina o napoletana Viva Milano (ora ne ha bisogno più di tutte), Viva l'Italia, Viva Ugo Frigerio e BUONA PASQUA!*
