O Soto Gari (Major Outer Reap) is one of the most effective throws ever invented with many variations and is used in all fighting sports. This video provides an in-depth look at using a low sleeve grip with a shoulder pop as you attack.

That was really cool... I could've used it in a tournament recently.... But it got out of my mind... Still... Awesome video... Keep teaching...

welcomematstevescott I'm so very thankful that you teach so good and kinda cover all aspects... But also I would really really love to see an Uchimata tutorial.... There are many on KZbin but I guess you'll just make it in detail so I would understand better... And also if you don't mind just curious to ask... Are you(the one who replies to comments) is that older sensei Steve Scott or that apprentice that younger one?

This is Steve Scott who responds to comments on this channel (the older guy in the videos). We really do enjoy doing these videos on this channel and are appreciative to you and everyone else who watches. As far as a tutorial on Uchi Mata, we have a fairly long video compilation video on Uchi Mata planned for viewing on Nov. 29. This will be Uchi Mata-12 Variations. It will have some existing video with some new stuff and will be a compilation of 12 different variations on Uchi Mata.

I've been reviewing all the videos that I've seen to date from your KZbin channel on the many variations of Osotogari and its sister techniques (Osoto Otoshi, Osoto Gake). I feel I could devote a lifetime (happily, mind you) just mastering this one family of techniques.

You've got a whole bunch of o soto variants and entries that I'm going to try, amongst all the other awesome stuff you've uploaded.

Thanks for your comment. You are so right-O Soto Gari is such an effective throw with many applications and variations. It's one of the mainstay throwing techniques of judo and every other combat sport. My fist sensei was adept at O Soto Gari and gave me a real appreciation for its simplicity/complexity. Glad you like it as well and please tell others about our channel!

I tried this (and the two-on-one cross grip o soto) at a comp this past weekend. Couldn't make it come off this time, but I'll keep at it.

So no need of big traditional pulling up ? Osoto is my only good technique , I´ll add this one, I used to do something similar but ended like harai goshi

Give it a try-I think you will like this approach to O Soto Gari. O Soto Gari and Harai Goshi, when done in a side moving manner, are quite similar. Like we've said; "It doesn't matter what they call it as long as they call it Ippon."

That looks a little like a Yama arashi. No?

Good eye. This throw could easily be considered Yama Arashi as well as a variation of O Soto Gari.
