O-Vives - Trimaran Trika 540-2 - 20200105 - Electric Motor - Piriapolis

A 44Lb outboard electric motor in the Ô-Vives, a Trika 540-2 trimaran.
First sailing tests from La Rinconada beach in Piriápolis.
Being able to use an immediate, silent starter motor was very practical for maneuvering between several boats.
The main goal of the installation of this electric motor is to navigate in lagoons located along the Uruguayan ocean coast, in which the gasoline engines are already being banned. That the sail-electric motor combination is silent and non-polluting is perfect for the production of photo essays about nature and environment..
The solar panel was acquired in Aixa Energías from Piriapolis, who carried out a very neat salt-water-proof electric installation.
The engine is a Venom SX 44Lb from Aussie Watersnake and the deep cycle battery is a 12V / 100A.

You're dropping your voltage considerably having ropes across your solar panel. Other than that, that thing looks fun!

Thanks Charles. I know that. This solar panel is there only when I sail. Otherwise, when a stay at shore the panel is placed in a normal place, without these shotcords.

What kind of speed do you reach with the motor only?

Hi, in flat water, non front wind, and in "normal" mode, 4 to 5knt. With maximum power about 8knt, but only 1/2 hour of autonomy.

@@caselli-daniel thanks a lot for the info. That sounds very good - low resistance. I am planning a small DIY solar tri with ~700W panels on board and a bit more battery capacity and your numbers make the concept sound fairly viable.
