A very honest and intimate episode - at a different tempo to the usual more pumped-up episodes, which is appropriate considering the debacle at the weekend. Thanks to Toulouse for giving this young man an opportunity at a difficult time - am sure he will give his absolute all to pay them back.

Cheer up lads, you're an incredible rugby country and it is sad to see you all heads down. You will come back stronger than ever. It is only a matter of time, introspection and hard work. We've been through it all in France these past years and even though it feels good to beat you guys, this kind of victory leaves a bad taste... Rugby needs a strong English side so I wish you all the best, but hopefully not too soon.

Nous avons certainement rencontrés les irlandais trop tôt, nous n'étions pas prêts! mais ils nous ont battus et c'est trop tard pour les regrets ! Jack Willis is a beast in the making, I have no doubt that he'll bounce back. Lots of changes need to be made with this English team but I'm certain he'll be in the mix for this WC and the next. It's hard to show what you can do when all of your fellow forwards are getting beasted but Willis has world class potential.

Im always an England fan, winning England, losing England they are still my team. Even if next week we lose to Ireland in a similar or worse fashion I believe that in the long term it will turn around. Sport works in cycles and all we, as England fans, are experiencing is the echos of the E. Jones era machinery spluttering and failing. Over time Steve and everyone involved will tinker with the relevant parts to get us back to where we need to be and my prediction is in 12-18 months England will be awesome to watch. Keep the faith!
@feliscorax Жыл бұрын
I’m not so convinced you can blame it on Eddie. I certainly wouldn’t go blaming Borthwick, either, if he’s unable to turn things round. For me, it’s about the structures that are in place and the fact they’re no longer the production line of talent they once were. Plus, there’s an overemphasis on size and strength at age level that carries through to the seniors, such that the skills just aren’t there: compare Ireland, France, and New Zealand, for example. Then when they do come through the Premiership, their fitness and conditioning just doesn’t seem up to scratch. Those big French forwards were fit and mobile with excellent hands - when was the last time you could say that about England? 2003 probably.
@scottybot2003 Жыл бұрын
@@feliscorax Totally agree with your points here. I was listening to a podcast a few days ago and an ex player eluded to Borthwick not having complete control of who he selects in terms of players so i think we can safely say the team are in limbo right now. In a few years time i hope they are able to bring the next gen players through and actually cap them enough so they can play larger roles than comming off the bench for a few mins at the end of a game. That said i think the future is bright, just not right now.

@@scottybot2003 In fairness, I’m a Borthwick sceptic, in part because I don’t think international rugby is any place for employing coaches with the training wheels still attached. But, he deserves a chance, and I do think we’ll see what he’s made of at this level in the post-RWC cycle once he’s able to refresh the EPS with his own selections. But, I’ve also got to say, looking at the options, I honestly think there’s more in Old Mother Hubbard’s larder than England’s.
@somanytakennames Жыл бұрын
@@jmurphy9657 We ain’t gonna win it. No way Borthwick was ever going to get us into a contender spot with less than 10 competitive games. Think every England fan just needs to accept that and hope that by 2027 things will come right.

You learn much more from losing matches than in winning. England will improve, every player involved will learn bucket loads from this loss. France played extremely well for 70 minutes. It was probably the most accomplished match from France that i ever witnessed in 50 years of watching 🇫🇷 France. From this loss the foundations of a very strong determined England side will emerge. The loss will be in the back of your head for all your life, it will be a yardstick to measure what is to be done in order not to suffer this humiliating lossever again. Who knows what 6 months can do…

He didn't have his best game vs France, and i'm pretty sure he would have preferred to come back in Toulouse with something else. But he's a very improving player much appreciated in France. In fact, his experience in Toulouse will feed him to better understand another rugby approach. This english selection is lacking ideas, but Willis is a good idea for their future.

L'Angleterre reviendra. Big fan of Willis, but no way should he be playing an International on a Saturday, when he only got to bed at 1am Monday morning, then woke up 3 hours later and get on a plane. He looked tired Saturday. Hopefully future deals with players going abroad will have a clause that allows them not to play in fallow weeks. Player welfare first.

The players aren’t the issue, the coaching team is. They’ve made a team that wasn’t quite firing but was slowly getting to grips with how Jones wanted it to play, significantly worse. That’s quite impressive in a way. There aren’t many rugby unions who would take a punt on such an inexperienced coaching team, especially having dispensed with ones of the world’s best coaches. Still, Woodward and the rugby media in the UK got what they wanted, so that’s the main thing. As for Willis, he is a fantastic player with a big future.
@squidandchips Жыл бұрын
I wish the media would just f*ck Woodward off. Yeah, he was in charge of a World Cup winning team, but he also was in charge of 3 ass-kickings of the Lions in '05. He did a lot for English rugby, but that was a long time ago. Marler had it right about Wooders milking the cow again.

Its not Jacks fault most international coaching is moving forwards while Wales and England go sideways. If what i dread happening happens, after a mediocre world cup New Zealand give Robertson the job and he makes them the best in the world, the RFU should be disbanded as not fit for purpose and start again from the ground up as the English Rugby Union.

@paulmulryne8405 Жыл бұрын
I think it’s probably about balance. We need some monsters to accommodate a Jack. I watched a SA programme where they rightly said our second row is built like their 8 and 6 and our back row look like their smaller 7s. We just didn’t have the muscle to give him the opportunity he needs to jackal effectively. I think he is class.
@biglongun Жыл бұрын
@@paulmulryne8405 one thing I would say is that we look small compared to a lot of teams, the Boks especially. Every time I watch any England footage, like inside line for example, I’m struck by our lack of size throughout the team. Sinkler looks too small to be a prop, Jamie George and so on. Only Lawes looks like a big athlete.
