Commiserations to England. As an Irish man here in Ireland you guys put up a good fight. Ireland knew that going out against the old enemy was not going to be easy. Ask any Irishman were they nervous before the England game, a vast majority would say yes. And if they didn't inwards they certainly would be. It was unfortunate England got the Red Card on the Half Time whistle. The game would have certainly been different. Would Ireland have still won it more than likely yes but would have made for a nail biter at the very end....Again commiserations to England on a good attempt. Gave Ireland a game and a half....

Some real straws being grasped here. We were much better than against France (that wouldn't be hard). But we still got absolutely pumped. We're much worse than we were a year ago. That's on Borthwick. Our defence has deteriorated - that's on Sinfield (you can't blame him really, it's only his second season coaching in rugby union, which does rather beg the question - what is he doing in the England coaching team?). We are going to get absolutely pumped at the World Cup - we're just fortunate we have a really easy draw. Congrats to Dan Cole on his 100th cap.
@joeboonmusic4004 Жыл бұрын
Oh come on ffs. We didn't get pumped, the tries piled on when we were down to THIRTEEN men, but they fought hard. We are not 'much worse' than we were a year ago. We have a new coach with new systems and our defence hasn't deteriorated... We defended insanely well against Ireland, I'm genuinely not sure what you're on about. Borthwick has taken us back to basics and we finished as the best team in lineouts won and scrums too. So he's doing well in what he's set out to do in 5 games. That's no time at all, you do know that right? Farrell took 2 years minimum to get Ireland to where they are now. Oh and Shaun Edwards was more experienced with league than union until he became notorious as the best defence coach in the world so I'd say Sinfield is up to the job. Give it time, man ffs.

@@joeboonmusic4004 you took those words right out my mouth, so much hate this campaign towards England. By all means, was nowhere near our best but I see bright potential in the future. I don't think the team or Borthwick has put a foot wrong with the amount of time given after the EJ sacking. I agree, the defence at the start of the tournament wasn't up to a good enough standard especially against Scotland but massively improved by Ireland. I don't know what went wrong last week against France. They played a lot of players who had rested the p[previous match such as Alldritt who was phenomenal, giving hum and the rest of the team even more preparation and anticipation to smash England. France battered England and had the luck of the bounce of the ball occasionally. Ireland beat France however Ireland severely struggled against us last weekend. I strongly believe that top tier rugby has never been so competitive. any team in the top 8 could POTENTIALLY beat anyone depending on the day, conditions and bounce of the ball, Italy and Scotland looked great this year and wales improved throughout the campaign. I do think Borthwick's team / squad selection is debatable but overall good enough. a lot of fan biasty places a roll in that such as quins with Murley etc. I do think he should've been given an opportunity. but why didn't he play ben Earle more? was fantastic off the bench and has been phenomenal for Saracens for a few seasons now. literally player of the season last year! Tom Pearson looks fantastic too. Zach Mercer, hopefully England's number eight is returning to play for Glouster next season and will hopefully improve that role. JVP isn't quite cut out for international yet but has the potential. for me id bring Danny care, his combination with smith would be synergy as they know each other so well now, he's still a perfect sniping 9 with now bags of experience. So much potential in the future but so does every other team more or less. And finally, England need to stop prioritising private school rugby players, so many unbelievable talents who play at public schools, poorly funded clubs and low level university teams. Genge is a perfect example.
@protein7834 Жыл бұрын
I also think the media and fans put so much pressure under English teams, including football etc. we over hype upcoming players, Smith, Rashford, Bellingham, Saka, (soon Arrundel) etc and a lot of the time they don't live up to expectation as they under so much pressure and the back lash they face on social media with racism etc is a joke, it must be so difficult to put on a world class performance and whilst being scrutinised for everything and being held accountable. Too many opiniated people spreading too much hate and negativity. I find it so bewildering people have already been saying Borthwick out, at least give the man a chance first. Rome wasn't built in a day
@joeboonmusic4004 Жыл бұрын
@@protein7834 Agreed, man. In the time given, Borthwick has set out to get the house in order and I definitely think we've started to see that. People expecting intricate back play this early on were expecting far too much, I'm just glad our set piece is looking sturdy, that's the foundation and it's a great one. Some selection issues, but remember he hasn't been able to make all the selection changes that he wanted. I'm sure we'll see players like VRR, Pearson, T Hill, T Willis, Mercer, Quirke, Randall etc coming in for at least the WC training squad. Agreed too about Mercer, he's the future at 8, along with Tom Willis. I was saddened to see Dombrandt looking pretty pedestrian this 6N. Obviously the 8 is your dynamic back rower that you want to be the link between the backs and the forwards and he just wasn't that really at all. Looks great for Quins but to me Mercer looks like he's cut out for test rugby more. I certainly think there's plenty to be optimistic about. Borthwick is already in talks regarding re-synergising the way the England team work with the Premiership and overseas players. I'm glad we finally have a head coach who cares about the grass roots of the rugby in this country... I just don't expect we'll get too far in this coming World Cup. But a great chance to build depth for the next one!

@@joeboonmusic4004 all valid points which I agree with. Ireland still struggled to play us with 14 men, ands we still managed to put a score past them. Our forwards where better in the breakdown, maul and scrum massively improved. Months back everyone was complaining abut scrum and set piece over how bad we are at it, in little time Steve has completely turned it around. at the start of last season Leicester were at the bottom in relegation battle, after several months of being in charge borthers managed to take them onto the top 4 and go onto in the final. He has the experience, know how and calibre. i would like to see more opportunity for our plays overseas, i am worried many on them will leave the premiership for financial gain negatively effecting English clubs etc. As a chiefs fan it looks as if many of our main starts are leaving to play abroad, nowell, cowandickie, both simmond brothers, dave ewres, kirsten, hogg is leaving, and several more. i understand why they do, if they're not going to be given the opportunity to play international then they're gonna be chasing the money for a better quality of life.
