Good Luck with this project. I have worked on a lot of recovered oaks and generally find that early winter gives the best chances of recovery. I too put them in a large container for a year or two before trying for the bonsai pot. BUT...I have also had some success going straight to a pot so I will keep my prayers active for this one :)

Nice find but pretty sure that's going to die. Oaks are very finicky with root work and should have been put in a big pot and slowly worked on roots over several years. Good luck to you with that one.

Wow, great little tree! How's it looking now? You may want to consider leaving more roots on after you collect...may help chances of survival.

Put it in the bigger pot it will survive might do some video of it. unlike the chestnut the Oak just stopped producing buds and the leaves stopped growing
