Oak Mountain High School Band - The 2014 Halftime Show

The OMHS Spirit of Cahaba Marching Band performs their award-winning halftime show at the Southern Showcase Marching Band Invitational on October 11, 2014 in Dothan, Alabama. Their other competition this marching season was at "Sparks in the Park" on October 4th in Birmingham, AL. For that event the band earned Best in Class AAAA Drum Major, Dance Team and Percussion and was rated Superior in all captions. The band also earned Best in Class for AAA/AAAA Bands and was named the Grand Champion of all the bands in the competition. For the show posted here, the band earned a Superior rating in all captions and Best in Class AAAA Band, Drum Major, Color Guard, Dance Team and Percussion. They also earned the Challenge Cup for the highest total scores of any band at the event. The show this year is "One Small Step….a Journey Through Space." and features selections from Star Trek, Star Wars, ET, Close Encounters and the Planets. Congratulations to the Directors, Staff and amazingly talented musicians and visuals performers of the OMHS Spirit of Cahaba Marching Band!

How in the world this band sounds better than almost any high school (and most college bands) I've ever heard with that marching technique is just, well... this is quite possibly the most stunned I've ever been after randomly clicking on a marching band video on KZbin. I would love to hear their concert bands.

Formations could use work however the sound quality is VERY impressive for this age group and kuddos to the school for having such a good and big group involvement!

I was a band guide for Oak Mountain at this competition, and I have to say that the music selection and drill were on point and well executed. Not only did Oak Mountain have a wonderful show, but they were extremely well behaved and showed pristine musicianship on the warm up field.

This marching band is amazing. It's hard to find a competitive marching band that performs shows that football audiences can both understand and enjoy, and this is one of them. Love the Star Wars section. And love Jig 2 also (even though it's not in this video)

Drew Serrero For the football games, we do have an announcer that gives a brief introduction to the show and helps set it up but for the competitions there is no voice over. We have a great announcer though who has worked with the band for over ten years. I know what you mean that sometimes these announcers just go on and on and take away from the show. That is not the case when our announcer, Mr. Brane, does his part. He is very professional. Thanks for watching the show! Check back later this fall for more!

I have no problem with announcers giving a pre-show introduction sort of thing. I'm not thrilled with voice-overs during the show. I feel like it takes away from the music itself. My high school band uses an announcer before the show to introduce the show. Anyway, I enjoyed the show not relying on voice-overs during the show to illustrate the storyline. I could feel the emotion in the show with the music itself. Enjoyed it.

If you're talking about the second segment of the show (i.e. the "slow" section), the opening strains before the mellophone soli is the beginning of "Princess Leia's Theme" from "Star Wars". These opening strains then morph into "Jupiter" by Gustav Holst, which is the mellophone soli portion of the segment. "Jupiter" then morphs back into "Princess Leia's Theme" for the push and mellophone solo portions of the segment. The push in this segment is one of my favorite moments in the show -- I love how the mellophone section sings out.

Oak Mountain High School is located in Birmingham, AL. The OMHS Spirit of Cahaba Marching Band started with the school's inception in 1999. The marching show for the 2014 season was called, "One Small Step….a Journey Through Space". This video was from the final competition in which OMHS participated in 2014. The band typically competes in two marching contests each fall. I have posted the bands shows back to 2009. Many of these shows have won top honors. Thanks for watching!

as a senior in the Gadsden city high titan marching band I have to say I was amazed by their performance at the oak mountain vs Gadsden city week two playoff game halftime show as a huge scifi fan I loved the show getting to listen to it in person and then watch it on here im yet again amazed I loved their attitudes talking to us on the sidelines before halftime the fact that even though it was below 20 degrees farienheit they showed class and major skill we would be honored to have oak mountain return

This is really nice, although the marchinf technique is pretty bad. Seriously, all I see is bent legs, but I don't know if that's your technique at your school. Since I'm in the battery section, I was mostly looking at them and the basses spacing was off in a lor of places and it just looks like some of them don't know what's going on.
