I started in forestry in 2020, but I got my tree climbing tickets in late 21. Have only worked sporadically since then so really not long.

Hi right I’m not having a pop ( much lol ) But u need to read this Explains why at the end The bloke on the ground Is he your groundsman ? Or the home owner ? You need to brush up on your tree surgery terminology, you said that you’re reducing the tree by 70%, that’s not what you’ve done. A reduction, is from the tips back towards the crown of the tree. What you’ve done is thin the tree and even that’s not been done how you’re meant to do it. Reductions are done in metres from the tip backwards. Now, when I started it was percentages for reductions and for thinning. Or the trees is worked on the basis of the terminology of thinning to reduce. Oh and the split was not dead and didn’t need to be removed, however if you’re gonna remove the split section then you could have taken the smaller half or better still left both parts and used a small cobra system or banding system for example. This would have been much more suitable and far better for the tree. This option makes that section of the tree safe for anyone that is near it and doesn’t leave a whopping great big hole. Tree Surgery does not mean removal every single time. Might be a wise move to look up branch collars too. If you put your work on KZbin make sure it’s right because other people are watching and learning from what you do! As you’re doing it wrong meaning they probably will be now too……. It’s no wonder people have a bad opinion or view of tree surgeons. Most of all not good for the tree! Just to let u know I’ve been doing the job for 32 years as a fully qualified tree surgeon with a national diploma not just tickets that mean I can use the equipment Good luck with your future in Deavours.

@@chrisbrint6648 35% I believe is what your supposed to take off. And lions tailing is when you make the branch look like a lions tail. Not a good thing lol. You want to leave a lot of the laterals and branches on the limbs. Another big thing which most people don’t do this is pruning during winter season not summer. Especially on an oak. Pruning is a lot more like a science. You will get it down. Less is more. You obviously want to do things right and sometimes that’s not what the customer thinks or understands to be correct. Not trying to tear you down but build you up. There’s alot of people doing tree work for about the time you have and can’t even tie knots lol. Keep it up make money be safe and happy. Good luck to you sir.

@@chrisbrint6648 hi Chris, thanks for the feedback. And genuinely thank you for the technical explanations. As I’ve said before I have been doing this for long, and I wouldn’t have tried something like this on a tree that was with someone I didn’t know. The guy on the ground is not my ground worker, it’s my friend Alex whose tree it was that I was working on. There’s a couple of other videos in the series that add some context to this series and I have repeatedly stated that these aren’t how-to videos. I started in tree surgery about a year ago but unfortunately the guy that I work for kind of stiffed me, so I’ve had to muddle through and start learning things on my own. It’s not been particularly easy and I’ve made some mistakes, like this one. Genuinely appreciate any feedback from people that have been doing this for a while as I’m looking to learn.
