I’ve heard it a few times on XM radio , Willies Roadhouse and on Prime Country . I grew up listening to Them . . First time I saw Them live I was 8 years old. In 1976 . I have been so blessed to have seen Them so many times since . I lived a few miles from Oak Ridge Tn . For 8 years . ♥️🎶

On this day in 1978 {January 29th} a covered version of "You're The One"* by the Oak Ridge Boys peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart, the two records that kept it out of the top spot were "Out of My Head and Back In My Bed" by Loretta Lynn and "I Just Wish You Were Someone I Love" by Larry Gatlin... Between 1976 and 1999 the Oak Ridge Boys had forty-four records on the Hot Country Singles chart, thirty-three made the Top 10 with seventeen reaching #1, they just missed having three more #1 records when their "Sail Away" {1979}, "I Wish You Could Have Turned My Head" {1982} and the above "You're The One" all peaked at #2... * The original version of "You're The One" was recorded by Glen Campbell, it was track two on side two on his 1973 album 'I Knew Jesus (Before He Was A Star)', the album reached #13 on Billboard's Hot Country Albums chart... And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, the remainder of the Top 10 on January 29th, 1978: At #3. "To Daddy" by Emmylou Harris #4. "I Just Wish You Were Someone I Love" by Larry Gatlin #5. "Don't Break The Heart That Loves You" by Margo Smith #6. "What A Difference You Made In My Life" by Ronnie Milsap #7. "What Did I Promise Her Last Night" by Mel Tillis #8. "Middle Age Crazy" by Jerry Lee Lewis #9. "Something To Brag About" by Mary Kay Place #10. "Woman To Woman" by Barbara Mandrell

I have seen them live about 7 or 8 times between the around 1988 (with Steve Sanders in Golden's place) and 2010. They have never given a bad show, EVER, that I have seen. Plus, got to meet Chris Golden, William Lee's son and drummer for the group. Nice guy.

STATLER BROTHERS, Hands down, because NO ONE can hold those 4 point Harmony Notes at the end of a Song like the Statler Brothers always do. And NO OTHER TENOR SINGER can hold that extra high note for an extra long time like Jimmy Fortune does. Then when you add in the extra Comedy Routine between Harold, and Don, which is sometimes at poor Phil's expense, there is just no other Quartet in Country/Southern Gospel Music that can even begin to rival the Statlers. Now don't get me wrong, the Mighty Oak Ridge Boys have always been a close second, followed by George Younce, and Glen Young, and the Cathedrals.

Yeah they just don’t have quartet’s any more perfect example right there it’s amazing how that comes together and makes a beautiful sound and that’s music they don’t make them like that any more and if hey did they would packing leaveing Nashville faster than they got there. You have to love the old standards like these thers just no replacing it i res up in the 70s and 80s if I live there till I die I can’t say I would be happy I’d sing right along with Barbra mandrel and George jones “ I was country when country wasn’t cool “

question , statlers brother or oaks who was the best?
@richardr79477 жыл бұрын
Oak Ridge Boys way better big time
@kevinswinyer31765 жыл бұрын
Statlers are hands down the absolute best, and the Mighty Oak Ridge Boys are right behind them in a very close second. I have seen both groups live, and the Statlers get the crowd all worked up, and keep them in stitches with Harold's jokes, and funny antics, and it's that little bit extra that gives the Statlers the win in my book.
@jodywilke46425 жыл бұрын
The Oak Ridge Boys, no question. I like The Statler Brothers, don't get me wrong--but the Oaks put on a more entertaining show, and their music is also alot better.😔💒
@freedomlover8412 Жыл бұрын
Statlers, oaks second.
@highnrising7 ай бұрын
Statler Brothers were a nostalgia act even when they were at their peak. The Oaks were a contemporary music juggeranut. One thing the Statler Brothers and Oaks had in common was that their captain--Don, with the Statlers and Duane, with the Oaks managed to be the least noticeable member, even while singing lead most of the time.

Did they push Sanders out to bring back Golden or did Sanders really quit on his own? Funny because they had Sanders singing lead all the time and Golden sang lead very rarely.
