Excellent quality of video and workmanship. I’ve been woodworking for over 45 years and I wish I had a pound for every box I’ve made in that time. I’m sitting here looking at a box I made many years ago in exactly the same way as you did. The timber is splayed beach and I used ebony for the splines. To match, I used a black slate tile for the top. I used cedar for the internal pieces which hold the top in place. My only suggestion to any newcomer would be to do the most intricate elements first. For me, that would be the fitting of the cross; do that before fitting into the box and, if you do screw up, you haven’t lost the box. I don’t know if you make boxes with hinges but, if you do, I would highly recommend Smart Hinges by Andrew Crawford. I’ve got no connection with AC except as someone who has used his hinges for quite a few years and they are, in my view, the best quality (and easiest to fit) hinges put there. I know that AC had some issues getting consistent production but I think that’s Al on the past now.

There’s an insert around the inside “perimeter” of the box and the lid has space for it. When closed the lid can’t go anywhere. Or magic. It’s probably magic

The tea box is definitely good. Tea bags are always disgusting. However, tea has nothing to do with it. Of course I put like for the excellent work and video.

I would like to ask why this craftsman uses sandpaper to finish his pieces of wood rather than a smoothing plane that gives a much finer in better surface

@@alpinewoodworks Except the finish is noticeably different. A sanded surface has little or no depth to it where a planed surface does besides a sanded surface has scratches no matter how fine.
