oh my god please do NOT apologize for saying that white girls shouldn't be playing pocahontas. they shouldn't be. pocahontas is native american, she should be played by someone who is A). native or B). seriously passes at native. people should be apologizing for casting white girls to play pocahontas, you shouldn't be apologizing for saying that they shouldn't be.

+hayleypdowd I am Filipino, white, and a little native american. I too thought " I look more like pocahontas than her."unfortunately I am not tall enough. My ethnicity is what also makes me short. I hope Disney makes more of an effort to cast those who actually fit the background.
@gissellept8 жыл бұрын
"B) seriously passes as native." So if A white girl "seriously passes as native" can she be Pocahontas? I actually have no problem with it, it's unfair to say that someone can't be a certain character just because of their race. I prefer for the cast memeber to look a lot like the actual character because it feels like you're actually meeting the real character instead of just another cast member. But that's just my opinion.

You should do a video talking all about the Disney signatures. Like was hard or easy to perfect Jasmine's and Pocahontas's signature? If you were left handed and your character was right handed did Disney make you learn to write with you right hand? Did guest get on you about that? Who's signature do you like best? Ect. Jennifer, you must know this story! My daughter Paiges favorite princess was Pocahontas! We couldn't find her! The cast member at our resort told us Pocahontas makes an appearance at Animal Kingdom but wasn't sure of the time. We went to the animal clinic the next day and waited and waited and when you walked in, my Daughter was overjoyed! You spent so much time with her. You held her hand and walked with her and talked to her for such a long time. Thank you! She was 6 at the time. If you ask her what her favorite memory is of Disney World, it will always be Pocahontas!

What you said about male attention with Pocahontas is so very accurate. I remember on my first Disney World trip we saw a Pocahontas show and the males watching were visibly smitten by her, they were even whistling and talking about her thighs, my dad even said that was his favorite part of the trip. That must have been so uncomfortable for the performer.

I used to portray Princess Jasmine in the musical at DCA and it was kinda annoying if I would hear someone respond smart alecky to one lines I would say before I go into a song and I'm like ugh really??? Fortunately after the song I get to be angry and my poor Aladdins would get the brunt of it haha but ugh why must people on insist being rude!! And don't get me started on the creeps!!! I'm so sorry!! You're beautiful Jennifer and just the way you acted with such grace and admirable!!! I definitely agree you need to do more makeup/beauty videos! "[John Rolfe] was her real life true love".. Um no. She married Rolfe to create an alliance between the tribe and the settlers. It was hardly love and likely wasn't really her choice. She already had a husband and kid even before Smith got there. She was raped, taken to England, mistreated, and then (allegedly) killed upon wanting to return home. We learn a lot of misinformation about all that went down back then.
@OakesPrincess6 жыл бұрын
yeah. I hear so much about how horrible Pocahontas's life was that it's hard to keep track anymore. All I know is that Americans were horrible to the Native Americans.. (and other groups for that matter, such as the Japanese back in the 1940s).. but for working at Disney, you have to tell their version or else get fired. I liked my job pretty well for a college kid, decent pay, gotta earn a living.. but yea.. The truth isn't always as pretty. As for what truly happened to Pocahontas, I haven't researched enough to decide which truth is the one I most believe because I've heard several different versions.. the one about her already having a husband/kid is a new one for me so I'd have to look into that.. regardless, every story for Pocahontas's real life sounds sad.
@ballwizz236 жыл бұрын
That's fair. Well I can respect the fact that you've made an effort to learn about her life. I feel like forgetting it and just adopting the Disney version is kind of disrespectful. But I understand that you had a job to do and really didn't mean any harm. I love your videos! Maybe I saw you at Disney World at one point lol

@OakesPrincess9 жыл бұрын
saysay996 I think it can depend on height, my personal sizes fluctuated between 4-8 in US sizes.. I am 5'5".. but some girls were taller (5'10") and could wear a size 8-10. I am hoping to film a video on how I dealt with my weight during my time at Disney. Most of the girls didn't have "perfect" bodies, they were def more "real" but at the same time they were often slender. But I saw all diff types.. (apple shape, pear shape) but fitting into the costumes was def. key. Hope this helps. xo

You look great in every video, I'm envious! I am in my mid-twenties and feel it is time to start a facial care regimen to prevent any wrinkles and such. I look forward to more videos and hope you make one on skin care =) love from NY! xo

I didn't even know there was such a thing as the Disney International Program, I just thought there was the College Program (which I cannot enter because I'm from the Netherlands). Do you happen to know if Dutch people can participate in the International Program? I can't find that information on the website.

I wish id met you as pocahontas. The one i met was okay, but she didnt say anything about my "just engaged" button and she seemed bored with the conversation. Although I do remember telling her my canoing story when I was in Boy scouts. Copperhead snake about 2' long next to the canoe!! Although, I decided to wear a Genie shirt when I met her. Interesting reaction. But interesting in a good way, and she at least answered the question of what her armband tattoo means. I also asked "If youre Powhatan, what are you doing in Seminole country?" She replied with "The powhatan have had an alliance with the Seminole for years."

I'm 5'6" (and growing! I'm scared that I'll be too tall), I have brown eyes and freckles. I'm half Singaporean, so I don't really look "white" or Asian, at the same time. I really would like to be either Ariel or Pocahontas, but I'm not sure. I was wondering what character I should go for?

I watched a video about the stuff disney princess go through and one talked about pocahontas and how one time a child came up to her and said that they had visited her grave and then asked how she was alive and pocahontas had to think about what to say and also. I have a question if someone were to say they do they know tiger lilly could pocahontas say they know tiger lilly since she is a disney character?

Thank you so much for posting this! It's definitely one of your most interesting videos yet. Thanks for being so honest and i love hearing about your experience. Im sorry that you had a bit of a hard time there. That's awful to hear what some people said. One thing that I am wondering is do you have specific character training sessions before you start or just a manual?

There's not many vlogs like this of a former face character performer giving their take on what it was like to be friends with one or more of the face characters. Thanks for sharing this! I was in Disney world in mid-April in 2009! Were you there then? I also hear Disney world isn't as picky as casting characters as Disneyland here in California is. I also remember meeting lots of people from England being at Disney then too and I thought they were so great!

From what ages did you work at Disney? I will be auditioning for Disney but not sure whether to do it before I go to college, in summer/winter break whilst at college or after I leave. What would you advise?

I'm studying for my degree in biology right now. I live in Washington and doubt that I'll ever study in Florida, but I'm shocked that the students made fun of you and didn't know about the Tasmanian Tiger! That's one of the coolest animals that have gone extinct. I'll let some of my fellow students know this story and hopefully they won't make a similar mistake.

Hello, I've really been enjoying your videos so far and I wanted to know if I could get a little help. My friends and I are starting a princess party business and I will be portraying Pocahontas because I resemble her the most (I'm ecuadorian) and I was wondering if you could give me some tips on how to get into character and on some responses to know. I have done a lot of research already on her historically and I know both movies very well but I'm worried I won't be able to respond to the kids well.

I know this is a long shot but what if you had afro-latina features? would you still be able to pass as Pocahontas or would it be best towards Tiana? in the near future I would like to be Moana. although I have no Polynesian blood (Puerto Rican and Mexican) I have been told and noticed I look identical to Moana and I relate very well to her character (so far from what I've seen and read up on). sorry for the paragraph just really needed to ask. by the way you're a really beautiful lady and your daughter is adorable.

Hi Jennifer!! I have been binge watching your videos about your time at WDW for the past few days now and I find them so interesting and entertaining, mainly because I really want to work there as a face character. I have a few questions about it though. I am British and have a English accent, do you think that could affect me being cast at an audition? I have performing arts history and can put several different accents and voices on. II also have two skin conditions, keratosis pilaris mainly on my arms and legs, although on me because I'm so far skinned the bumps can look like freckles, I can't help but think that this would prevent me from getting a role, the other condition I have is rosacea it is mainly concentrated heavily on my cheeks and slightly above my eyebrows causing them to be red (not pink or rosy, red!!!) I am able to cover this up very well with make up though. I am just wondering if you know anyone who has any experience with stuff like this or what your thoughts about it are. I do think one day I have a chance at being Cinderella because I am pale and I have a rounded face also I think I have similarities to Snow White because of my face shape and the redness of my cheeks. A question about your time at WDW, have you ever gone to the park and met Jasmine or Pocahontas and told them that you two used to best 'best friends' also did you ever any of the other outfits that jasmine was featured in in the other films e.g her red outfit, either of the purple ones, her wedding outfit or the outfit that she wore when she ran away? Thank you for reading xx

Hello Jennifer I have always wondered this for a long time when you portrayed Pocahontas what was your answer or explanation when people or children would refer to you being deceased. Like what do you say at that moment? I've always thought that you obviously don't just want to say it's a movie or I'm just based on her, so what did you tell people? Oh and especially on Thanksgiving I know that it's kinda awkward and offensive to ask that to a Native American since we know what really happened so what would you say? Thank you!!!

I watched some videos of Cinderella's step-family at Disneyland. They are so good. They'll sing Sing Sweet Nightingale really poorly and out of tune like in the movie. And the person who made the video asked Anastasia about what she would look for in a man. She said nice and sweet and a baker, like in Cinderella 2. I thought it was totally awesome that she did.

Me too!!!! Crazy of me not to have taken any! But this was before we had smart phones! We just had flip phones and you needed a nifty digital camera, which I rarely brought to work, as they were generally prohibited. I want to know how Disney reacted to smart phones being introduced backstage. I missed that since I left entertainment in '09...

does Disney usually cast people with glasses? I want to be cast as a princess for one of the parks, but I have glasses so i don't know
@OakesPrincess8 жыл бұрын
if the cartoon character doesn't wear glasses, then there's a good chance you won't be cast ----I do wear glasses (wearing them right now!) but I wore contacts to my audition and had to wear contacts out on set as the character performer... if I would have left my contacts at home, there's a good chance I'd of gotten in trouble. Hope this helps! xo

Did you ever see someone you recognize(i.e. neighbor, schoolmate, someone you knew growing up)while you were in character? Did you ever slide in their name or ask them about the city,school, neighborhood they were from?
