Normally, I'd question that choice too, but then again, this is the same police force that shot a veteran in the head with a lead-filled bean bag causing permanent brain damage. Then they threw a grenade into a group of people trying to help the injured veteran, who was lying in a pool of his own blood. They finally fired that officer only to rehire him 3 years later with back pay. _Yeah, gonna go with the ex-con route. At least there's a chance they'll be doing the right thing._

I'm from Oakland and from my own personal experience, the cops really don't pay attention to minor and nonviolent crimes. Not to mention that they're understaffed for handling the population of Oakland. An example is that on a weekly basis, cars along Telegraph and Broadway about a mile away from the downtown police station are being smashed into and robbed without any penalty. Having ex-cons run the police in my city honestly doesn't seem like the best idea when we haven't even improved our police departments infrastructure.

I don't think they listened to everything Tiff said. The report said it's for citizens and ex-convicts are encouraged to sign up, not that the committee will be only made of ex-convicts. Also, there is another committee choosing the people for that police committee. I think what they're trying to do is have a committee with people who won't be too initimidated by the fact that they're judging the police and ex-convicts may fall within this grouping.

I wish Julia actually spoke, I doubt she was stopped and searched. We need more perspectives on topics like this. As an Asian that grew up in the country I have never feared police. So when Oakland want to put a convict on a board or committee that makes me wonder, just how stupid are the people of California? I had people I know go in and out of prison, mostly on drug charges. But never have I ever heard them say anything good about police or corrections after getting out. So if the person I'm thinking of was put in a committee and saw body cam footage of anything, he would just say it's police brutality.
