Inflation is primarily due to printing money, they are increasing rates to tackle inflation by killing demand. They will eventually drop rates with the aim of inflation returning to 2-3%, fostering a good climate for economic growth.

I'm with Druckenmiller here, if they cut rates too soon and inflation returns they'll have to slam rates up Volker style & long duration bonds will get smoked. Short term fixed income is alright, it's a stock pickers market.
