Apologies for the brief hiatus I'm on new meds and still learning how they affect me.
Translation: My anti-anxiety meds made me more susceptible to migraines and I've spent the last week and a half trying to re-learn my migraine triggers.

While I love the concept of Halo, I greatly dislike, even hated the fact that the Muslim girl's soul is gone and dead with nothing but the mother box's soul in her body. I would have much preferred that the girl would have been kept intact and given positive Muslim rep, from a girl from said culture. Also with the possibility of how disoriented, even scared she might be having died but somehow came back to life. Perhaps also don't make her forget all about her past but if they really wanted to keep the mystery of her becoming a human mother box, have her try to find out what she has become. It also feels weird that we got to see her hair, knowing what I know about those that wish to cover up for the sake of their beliefs.

I haven't seen the show, but violet would have been an excellent candidate for a mixed faith plural system. I say this as a plural system, who is partners with a mixed faith plural system. It introduces some challenges that would make for excellent character development. But no. That would actually be interesting.

That look in Conner's eyes when he says why can't I fly has strangely quite a bit of emotion in it in my opinion.

Actually there was a time when lex was president in the comic back in like the 00's/90's...so the trump jokes could have been waaay more on nose.

I am aware of that, yes, but I'd almost find that less grating because at least him becoming president is in any way believable.

As someone from a muslim household; positive muslim representation is really a hard thing to do. There are just so many issues with the religion as a whole; particularly sharia law. What would be considered 'accurate representation' by a very orthodox muslim would be at least borderline abuse of women. And if you went and made it more positive with women not being treated as second class people; it's definitely going to piss off the more hardline muslims. The whole idea of the Hijab is _horrendously_ sexist; even if it's a woman's choice to wear it to conform, there is no such dress code for muslim men. And the deeper you did, the more horribly sexist it gets. Christianity is no saint, but it's been eroded over the years to where it has little ingrained sexist practices remaining; but Islam has a ways to go still. Trust me when I say you would probably not enjoy visiting a heavily muslim country as a woman; and watching many of your human rights evaporate. The dress code is really like the whole double standard against female nipples; but it's against the whole body, varying from only the face and hands being 'decent' to show, down to nothing at all. And it's not really a woman's choice to conform or not; not at all in muslim countries, and not even living in the west. While not enforced by laws and jail time; women are not free to dress as they please while following islam. I just don't see how Islam can have positive representation when it is loaded with all the women's rights issues it is.

Hi! By any chance, would you mind sharing your thoughts on how Young Justice handled Muslim representation in season 4, episode 14? I've heard positive comments about the episode, but religion in general is a complex subject and everyone has different experiences and opinions. In this case, I feel it's most important to listen to people that practice the religion or are in contact with it. I know very few TV shows that have Muslim characters who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, so I was very positively surprised when Violet came out as non binary and started using they/them pronouns. I think this arc has a lot of potential for their character and I'm excited to see where the show takes it. I'm assuming Violet will continue to learn more about Islam, but since the season isn't over we can't be sure of what will happen and how the writers will handle their faith. If it's not too much to ask, could you talk about your initial impression of the show's portrayel? Thank you so much for reading! PS: English is not my first language, so I apologize in advance for any grammar mistakes or misunderstandings.

@@bg_3605 That's the one where Violet talked with the mother of her host body, right? IMO that did a great explanation of more progressive muslim culture; which I don't have an issue with. Stuff like acknowledging the Hijab is ultimately a choice, and not pushing things like 'you will go to hell' if you don't wear it. Sadly, from my experiences with more conservative practitioners of Islam I imagine that whole conversation would be labeled blasphemy or worse. Progressive islam is a very small sect, from my experience, far smaller than even accepting christian sects. Violet's mother is what those who practice ANY religious should strive to be, accepting, patient, explanatory. (She honestly goes by and far above, situation considered. It wouldn't be easy to look at the face of your dead child; knowing some other intelligence is piloting her body around like a puppet.) I do think that proper portrayal does need to cover the bad parts of things too though, you need to show the good and the bad, and highlight how things can change for the better if you want the perfect representation of any culture or religion.
@bg_3605

That's the one. I understand your point about how Gabrielle's mother took on a more progressive approach when telling Violet about Islam, and respecting their choice to follow the religion on their terms. Still, from what I've been hearing, I believe it was positive representation, and miles better than anything they did in season 3. Thank you so much for sharing! I really appreciate it.

Lex Luthor was a Donald Trump parody long before Donald Trump was relevant to anyone outside reality tv. It would be more accurate to call Donald Trump a Lex Luthor parody.

The most worthwhile part of s3 was the end cards tbh. My sister and I decided the plot centered around getting superboy shirtless, an unfortunately common occurrence for someone who isn't even 10 years old???

I can't watch seasons 2/3 without feeling sad. Season 1 just had something so special and different about it, but ever since the first episode of Invasion that uniqueness was lost. I feel compelled to write a book entitled "How to ruin a good show" and use YJ as my subject. I understand that Greg was planning all of this since the start, but the show's main problem was that they valued plot over characters. We had a million new characters join the team and they developed none of them. Instead, they had a needlessly convoluted plot and an awful time skip. We missed out on so many important moments that happened in those 5 years and we never got to see our favorite heroes grow and find themselves as people. Season 3 also suffered from these problems, and while there were some improvements I still did not enjoy it. The lack of character development really shows because we keep having to circle back to lessons we learned in the first season. They had concluded that we shouldn't keep secrets from the Team, but then they proceed to do exactly that in Invasion and Outsiders. It's even become a meme in the Fandom that the characters are constantly lying to each other. Furthermore, the creators want to do everything all at once and they accomplish none of it. They want a separate universe from the comics but they want to add all the characters that feature in them. They want to focus on the Year 0 team but they want to write about the new generation of heroes. It's so disappointing to see a show with so much potential regress like this. I firmly believe that Young Justice should have followed the Year Zero team (Kaldur, Dick, Wally, Conner, Artemis, M'gann, Zatanna and Raquel) as they and grown into accomplished heroes. We should have had season two follow directly after New Years and go from there. I like to explain this point of view using Nightwing's character as an example. After the Failsafe simulation, Robin experienced the most important realization of his life. He doesn't want to be Batman anymore. That is very in line with the type of person Dick Grayson is, and it's a pinnacle moment for his character. He's starting to separate himself from the Batman mantle and become his own man. Imagine, that instead of jumping directly into the mantle of Nightwing, we saw him struggle a bit with this internal conflict. Maybe he starts to see the darkness that consumes his father figure and starts to dread becoming like him. His dilemma could affect his performance leading a mission, and then we could have a bonding moment between him and his friends. Little by little he begins to gain confidence as a leader. Later on, the show could have tied in the moment in the watchtower where Bruce says that he didn't want Dick to turn out like him. That could have strengthened their relationship and have Dick realize that he's a much more hopeful person that his mentor. After this, the payoff of seeing him dawn the Nightwing suit for the first time would be much greater. This is the kind of development I wanted so desperately to see. At the end of the day, I'm still gonna watch Young Justice. Even if it's not a good show by my personal standards anymore, I like the characters and they have good episodes from time to time (Bowhunter Security is an example of what I mean here) and I'll be holding on to the individual moments where the show can capture that special spark we had in the very beginning. However, for the most part, I'm gonna stick to season 1 on Netflix.

You can't treat young justice as a small show with 6 to 8 characters.... Young Justice Season 1 will always remind me of "Justice League" while Season 2 and on wards gives off a "Justice League Unlimited" feel to it. I know we all love the show and want the Season 1 feel back (trust me The best time of my life was when Season 1 came out and finished). However one thing I have learned and it's thanks to the later seasons is that life moves on...we all grow and age and have to move on. Season 1 will always be the best and most heart touching season... Whilst Season 2 and 3 feels like great big leaps to explore an every growing world. I for one was completely okay with shift from our main "friends" and always wanted to see more of earth 16. I hope this little "essay" opened anyone or someones eyes who doesn't like Season 2 or 3.....Just remember We grew up...and so did are friends...an just like with life we stepped out of the sandbox and into a much bigger and scarier world...

I always thought of season 1 as a stepping stone into the larger world of the series. Even then it was setting up a lot of worldbuilding, especially through the comic book tie-in.

I honestly wonder if the length of the first time jump was even entirely the creators’ fault or the higher-ups, because season two really has to catch up on so much happening in-between the five year time jump. I mean, consider that George RR Martin scrapped a similar time jump because he KNEW there were too many character and story threads that he’d have to account for. At least in a novel you have more creative control, but still… I dunno, feels like it could’ve been done better. Much better.
