In the last 10 year period of Oasis in the 2000’s, Gem Archer & Andy Bell joined as members and were generally considered the better musicians.
Then after the band split, time goes by and the Supersonic film comes out, nostalgia kicks in and suddenly the FICKLE public and a new generation of fans are declaring Bonehead & Guigs were the real Oasis.
This is taken from a radio documentary called 'What's the Story?' which aired in 2002. With talk of why Bonehead and Guigsy left in 1999 whilst making Standing On the Shoulder of Giants in France.

Noel admits he was in a drunken state when having it out with Bonehead for, um, drinking. So both were actually breaking the curfew of remaining sober for the sake of Liam who was never going to be happy drinking a coke in a pub when his mate's having a pint...all in all a recipe for disaster 😄

I think its fairly obvious that Noel is control freak. The fact that Liam, Guigsy, Bonehead and tony are all still good friends, who see each other regularly, but havent talked to Noel for decades, speaks volumes. Yea, Liam might be a bit of tit, but ultimately he's a decent person. Noel? Id imagine he's very dismissive and condescending and belittling. But, you know, without Noel, Oasis as we know them wouldnt exist.

Bonehead is a great addition to Liam’s live set up so glad to see him back in some capacity. Having said that Gem was more than capable of replacing him in Oasis and one of my last memories of seeing Oasis live is his haunting guitar. It’s like arguing who is your favourite grandparent.

At least he left. When band members stay in the band but bitch about their circumstances, don't be in that band. Go do your own thing. To be honest, Oasis made great music at the right time. We needed to get Celine Dion and M People off the fucking radio. And along come Oasis. But musically, it's only in the last couple of years that Noel has raised the bar in terms of songwriting. As for Bonehead, even if he's songs are shit, it's not as laughable as the shitshow of Simon Cowell's enterprise. But there will always a long line of people who want fame. So they go on a game show and we take it seriously. I liked Oasis when the quality of their music and their arrogance was at the same level. Then after a few years, the arrogance outweighed the quality of the music. Their legacy is from Definitely Maybe to The Masterplan. After that, meh.

Bell and Archer may have been better musicians - but Oasis lost their magic after Be Here Now. They just weren't an exciting band anymore in the 00's. @Craig wells Craig mate, seriously - of course they were still popular, but if you didn't live through the buzz that they generated in the mid 90's, you can't explain it. Their popularity and the excitement around them was nothing in the 00's compared to the 90's. I was at high school when britpop was massive, Oasis were the kings of popular culture for a few years and they had the golden touch. Knebworth in '96 was a huge national event, it was on the '9 o clock news, live on Radio 1 all weekend (before we had the internet). I was into dance music only before them, they just had this magic about them though and I got well into them. Almost all other guitar music had seemed boring to me growing up because the rave scene was massive in the early 90's.

@@Koldfusion234 Noel knew Tony wasn't the man to take the drums further than the first album. The recording sessions for Definitely Maybe were fraught with issues with Tony's drumming and Bring it on Down was one of them tracks where the drums were hard to pin down. Check out the Definitely Maybe DVD to see this. You have to look at it at the recording sessions, would Tony have been able conjure up drum patterns to suit Noel and the tracks? I highly doubt it. With Alan at the helm he was better not just as a drummer but his overall musicianship was greater, giving Noel the confidence to carry the songs forward.

I still think of Andy and Gem as session musicians 🤣. I mean they obviously contributed immensely to the 2nd Act of Oasis but to me, the band as it should've remained was with Bonehead, Guigs and Alan. Ofcourse, Liam or Noel would never admit to that. They should've just taken another year or two off or something.

These new oasis fans don’t make sense. They clearly know nothing bout oasis if they like or dislike Liam or Noel. Back in the day Noel and Liam were the only people to dislike Noel and Liam. All oasis fans knew that it was BOTH of them that made Oasis. Noel wrote all the songs ffs, he was the one that made the vibe around them about hope coz it was in his melody making mind, he wrote all those rock n roll good time attitude songs, he was the one in his room on his OWN writing ‘some might say’ ‘live forever’ ‘rock n roll star’ and dreaming, them songs came from his heart. And Liam was the greatest person to have singing them songs coz no one could mean it and deliver it so powerfully and passionately and Liam was the one when I was a kiddy that I wanted to be. So I get that all these new Oasis fans love Liam, but your just sounding like little bitches that don’t get what oasis were about when your slagging off Noel or Liam and choosing one of the other! And Noel has to experiment with his music if he didn’t it’d get to stale and I’m sure he’ll be back with his guitar. It’s like saying I love the Beatles but weren’t Paul and John shit, or I love mars bars but hate the chocolate in it! (Great analogy). So all oasis fans should just go back to slagging off all other bands again especially RADIOHEAD coz it’s annoying that there shit music now is called experimental when it’s not it’s shit and they can’t write songs since ok computer and most of them were ripped off even more then Noel used to! Honestly i think the band hit a mark where they did everything and each one had there own thing going on. I think bonhead was done with the mass attention particular towards liam and noel, with noel in particular who controlled what way the band was going both in and out of the music so he was like fuck that. Quigsy was always a shy and reserved person so once bonehead left he decided it wasint the group he help started years ago and instead it became the gallagher brothers band and despite how significant those lads where they would have got no where without bonedhead, quiqsy, mccarroll, and alan white. That is the reason the band deteriorated though the 2000's because it was just liam and noel and thats why they ended. People are begging for a reunion despite Dig out your soul being there last and worst album apart from good singles and one or two good tracks off the album. Rather see some new blood take up legacy than a buch of saggy old rocksters in there 50s and 60s. If thats the case then let rock die to te fuck

Guigsy was crap and has never been missed really. He is an average bass player at best that could have easily been replaced in a heartbeat. Just that he was Noel's 'yes man' which guaranteed his position was safe in the band until he decided that he no longer wanted it. His bass playing was just about suitable for the live performances also which says a lot when Noel himself would often have to stand in and wipe Guigsys bass tracks and put his own ones down on many of the records. Bonehead on the other hand is a really good guitar player and was once described by Noel as 'the spirit of Oasis'.
