You currently need more than around 350k rose staked to your node to be in the top 120 active validator set.

You can stake to your own validator node, but unless you stake more than what the 120th largest validator has in total, your node won't validate any blocks, and wont generate any staking rewards.

Correct. Your node will not validate blocks, nor generate rewards unless you are in the top 120 validator set.

@@86jmgt You can stake to your own node but unless the amount you stake puts you into the top 120, your node wont generate any rewards or validate any blocks unfortunately

So you basicaly need more than 350k oasis tokens staked in your own node to be in the top 120? Do validators expose themselves to the risk of slashing perhaps?

Well the 120th largest validator today has about 2 million stake, so you would need more than that to be in the active set (not 350k anymore). A validator will only have some of their delegation slashed and the node frozen if you double sign for example, which will not happen with proper node management.
