While Liam's vocal is amazing, it does dominate the song (rightly, in my opinion). But as a result, and the fact that there are sub-par versions being performed around the world every hour, Wonderwall routinely gets dismissed as overly simple as well as being overplayed. It is actually something of a modern musical masterpieces, and I say that without a hint of irony! Even the basic rhythm guitar is a masterclass in playing rhythm guitar. It drives the entire song, and yes - it's only four chords, but it's concise strumming and it does what all expert acoustic rhythm guitar parts should do - highlight particular notes and subtleties within those chords while carrying the song. The lead guitar - specifically the arpeggio on the bridge - is not only beautiful, but technically brilliant. It's quite loose - and basically he's just hammering notes and strings of the same chords as the rhythm guitar - but it varies each time and is one of those hidden intricacies that display the brilliance of Noel Gallagher (besides crafting timeless songs from timeless chords). Lastly, the bass and drums. I'm not sure if it's Guigsy playing or if Noel chipped in again, but its easily the nimblest bass playing on any Oasis song and, while staying with the general rhythm, it also bounces all over the place to great effect. Lastly, Alan White has played an absolute blinder. Just listen to the drum track alone - you can tell he's trained in jazz. It's partly or perhaps wholly improvised, with supreme use of ghost notes, and again - as intricate as any Oasis song or indeed any chart hit in 1996. Add in those haunting viola, cello and piano parts and you have one of the most beautiful pop/rock songs of all time - and this is all without that astonishing vocal and melody!

dave790 I'm so glad somebody finally has said it. Wonderwall is dismissed as an overplayed song when it's legitimately beautiful composition wise. The final part of the song where the piano kicks into full force with the rest of the instruments is probably my single favorite piece of music of all time. I adore Wonderwall as a song so much, it's my absolute favorite song and I think it's legitimately gorgeous and the instrumental absolutely proves that. On a side note though, the haunting cellos (which are actually probably my favorite part of the whole composition when it comes to the instruments) isn't actually a cello at all! It's a mellotron!
