Holmes made Noel step out of his comfort zone. And he speaks openly about listening to Bowie, Blondie, REM, etc. They WANTED those influences to show on this record. That’s one of my favorite things about Noel, he was a fan first. A true student of the game while he was a roadie, and a self-taught musician. And he STILL loves writing songs! Lucky for me. Too bad for the haters.

I was only 10 or 11 when what's the story morning glory was released. They were the bollocks. Everyone had to have that album. Whether it was me and my mates or our older siblings. Oasis dominated that era.

Dude...i'm a songwriter. He might say "write another 6 like it and retire"....but it won't happen the way you think it will. He just made it clearer to everybody just how much he loves the creative process. That right there is what creatives are all about...they just can't turn the tap on and off...it comes through us at any time. I have written songs at three a.m. with snow falling down outside of my window with the picturesque sight of a main road with drunk folk having realised they've left "getting home" wayyy too late...and are falling and slipping everywhere.....when the creative bug bites you...it can bite at any time at all....it's not like turning the water to "flow gently" and having control. If Noel didn't write he'd probably get angst and anger filling his cup up. He is right about one big thing...a writer knows when they've penned a great song...then it's all about promotion, management, timing and pure luck mixed in.
@hairbradschmidt5138 ай бұрын
Mr. Gallagher/Dear Noel (?) Please take this band and record more of your songs with them. Something is obviously happening that brings out the innermost parts of the songs. Some things only look good from far away. With these songs it seems to be the other way around. And, I don't know, but I have the feeling that you feel comfortable and safe around these people, in any case the singing here is "better" than ever before for my taste. In any case, it's a pleasure to listen to the songs and discover them "newly". Well done! Keep it up. Please...PPPlllleeeeaaaassseee....PPPPPPPPPLLLLLLLEEEEEEAAAAAAASSSSSSSSEEEEEEE.

I think we have Liam and Bonehead to thank for the sound of Oasis. Even Noel said himself when he gave the songs he written to the rest of the band it sounded completely different to what he written when they played and sang it back to him. He said Bonehead was a huge influence on the bands sound.

Am I the only one who can hear bits of My Bloody Valentine in 'What a Life' - especially in the first five seconds? (Both Noel and Kevin Shields are of Irish decent; both were signed up by Creation Records.) Noel said that he always starts songs with the music first and leaves the lyrics until last. But when talking about 'Don't Look Back In Anger' he said that he started with the lyrics.

An extremely late comment, but Noel has his SIB Echodrive on for most songs and also a Kingsley Page Tube Boost. The choppy effect for It’s A Beautiful World comes from his Empress Echosystem.

*potential out there theory klaxon* Oasis fan since they began. I have a theory that Don't look back in Anger is not necessarily about letting go of negative experiences in your past. There is a black & white movie starring Richard Burton called "Look back in anger" about a northener who was a bit of a wife-beating drunk. It is my assertion that this was the commentary, especially after watching Supersonic documentary. Am I right. Does this opinion say more about me than the song itself? Who knows, only one man. A tour de force none the less. Thoughts & queries? Come at me KZbin. xx
