What a smashing film. My Dad grew up in Dundee Road opposite Etruria Park. Although his work took him all over the world from Ghana to the Yemen, Uganda to Libya he never forgot where he came from and made oatcakes from my Nana's recipe for his friends and colleagues every place he went. We lost him last year at the grand old age of 96 but this brought back some real memories for me as he and I went back to Stoke exploring many times after his eventual retirement in his late 70's ! He would have been so pleased to see the hope in this film of a stronger more vibrant Stoke to come.

Really enjoyed this, I’m from Middleport, Burslem, now living in Essex and my partner who was born & bred in Essex has practiced & got his oatcakes so thin & lacy...they are delicious. Oatcakes, Wright’s pies, but the best thing above all things are the lovely, warm people, you don’t realise just how warm & friendly the folk are until you leave & come back for a visit. Love and miss you Potteries, where my roots reside🙋🏽♀️💛 Stoke-on-Trent, centre of the Universe👍🏽

The strange thing is I am from that area but I now hate the local accent. I also hate the Essex and east London accent as well. But like the Richmond on Thames area accent because it sounds closest to standard English. That accent is not too posh and not too common similar to the BBC accent.

Grew up in Riverside road, Trent Vale in the 70`s when only the odd car, rag n bone man, Mr Snow's blue grocery van (still love Fry's Chocolate cream to this day) or ice cream van would spoil a cross street game of cricket, where all the dad's got together to damp down the grass fire in the fields in the summer of 76, the same fields where we enjoyed the biggest bonfires come 5th November, hearing the trains at Sideway or the occasional roar of a Stoke goal winging it's way down Campbell Road but only if the wind was in the right direction, where we'd be out from first light all summer hols making dams in the light brown Lyme Brook, mistaking water voles for rats. I remember jam sandwiches in the tree's alongside Rosetree Ave, Sunday morning walks with me dad up to Clayton Wood to pick bluebells in the Spring and blackberries from the hedge alongside the Michelin pool late summer, spending hours catching sticklebacks and learning from bits of dirty magazine under the D road bridge, digging to collect all the conkers from the branches dumped to enlarge the fields between St Theresa's and the 'tree swing', etc, etc, etc.....Am all grown up now but this film bought tears to me eyes. You can take the Man out of Stoke but not Stoke out of the man. Love Stoke. XXX

I lived in Stoke from 2000-2002 and I didn't have the opportunity to get involved in the community they didn't like black people. I didn't care though, I am a very warm and sociable person. Those were kind to me were far and in between . I fou d a wonderful friend there and that was really great those days. One of my work mate who was white came to hold my hand at the hospital during my delivery. Another came to visit with me the morning after my baby was born. To this day we're good friends. Guess what all these folks are white, none of my own people showed on any kindness in Stoke. God bless those who reach out to others. I loved Stoke just for the potteries because I originally came there to pursue a Masters programme at Staffordshire University. As an Archaeologist I have a crazy love forstudying Post-Medieval Ceramics.
