Hi! As several people have pointed out (thank you!), there is a difference between real colloidal oats and ground oatmeal (see some of the comments below that cover it really well and why you might prefer one over the other). I should have stated clearly that by grinding and sifting the rolled oats, I was actually making a substitute for fine colloidal oatmeal to use in the soap. I've used them both in soap, but you may prefer to stick with real colloidal oatmeal instead of oat powder like I used. Sorry for the confusion! 😊

Love oatmeal soap, I use it all year round and I can never keep it in stock for the shop. On a side note there is a difference between ground oatmeal and colloidal oatmeal. Oats powdered in a coffee mill at home is oat flour where as colloidal oatmeal can not be made at home it is a specialised product requiring specialised equipment in a manufacturing lab setting. Oat flour can not be dissolved in water (even if it looks like it may have) and therefore not as affective while colloidal oats can be dissolved completely and permanently giving it a much more potent effect on the dermis surface (as seen by the difference in price) I only mention it because there seems to be confusion on YT between the two products. 👍🍂🍂🍂

Thanks for pointing this out! I added a pinned comment to help clear up any confusion and should have been more clear in my video I was creating a substitute with what I had on hand but not actually making colloidal oats. 😊

Hi Holly, beautiful video and music. Just to mention colloidal oats and simply ground oats are two very different things. Colloidal oats are produced in a lab by processing oats in a manufacturing setting by boiling the oats and water soluble active compounds are turned into powder. It cannot be replicated at home by simply grounding oats. Colloidal means it never settles at the bottom and forever dispersed in a medium and cannot be separated/filtered out. So if you take USP grade colloidal oats, it would dissolve in water and never settles at the bottom, nor can be caught with sieve or filter of any sort, whereas if you take simply ground oats like you just did in the video, they would settle at the bottom. It also has certain efficacy guarantee that they measure in the lab for anti-inflammatory effects on skin for it to be called colloidal oats. That’s why it’s USP grade colloidal oats and not simply ground oats.
@hollysoapmaking2 жыл бұрын
I definitely should have mentioned that you can grind oats as a substitute for true colloidal oats in soap, but that there is definitely a difference. In my experience, they have both worked well for me in soap. Thanks for mentioning this! I added a pinned comment to hopefully help clear up any confusion! 😊

@@hollysoapmaking I suspect this is a difference without much distinction. I have never bothered to purchase colloidal oats and have had fantastic results from finely ground oatmeal made in my BlendTec. I didn't bother to sift it. It makes luscious, creamy lather in my experience.

Hola Holly, te escribo desde España. He descubierto hace poco tu canal y estoy enganchada, me encantan tus vídeos y tus jabones.
@sonialisee16312 жыл бұрын
@cristinalalala52162 жыл бұрын
@@sonialisee1631 muchas gracias. ¿Entiendo que no tiene el mismo efecto que el hot process donde el jabón se puede usar casi de inmediato verdad? Acorta un poco el tiempo de curado pero igualmente hay que dejarlo curar...

I hope you were assisted or found this information. I am probably late with this response. Basically what she did was, she decided on 1000grams soap bar and chose which soap will have a higher percentage between shea, cocoa butter, catsor oil and oilve oil. Then decided between water and lye that lye will be 35% of her water and lye solution and water will be 65%. She then put that info on the soap calc to formulate a rwceipe and convert those percentages to grams and the soap calc did that. In thise receipe she used Oilve oil 350 grams Shea butter 300grams Castor oil 50 grams Coconut oil 200bgrama Coaco butter 100 grams (Add all these together youll get 100%) - Once you click on the view or print recipe right at the botrom of the calc youll then land on a page where you get your water and lye in grams) its easy trust me and don't allow the soap calc to overwhelme you 2tablespoons of oats Always add your lye to your water and never the other way around, it will fizz and create bubbles and I also believe its unsafe- heat and all. All the best.
