It’s too bad that CGM is not the right instrument to test foods with. Saying that, you wouldn’t see a reduction on a low GI steel cut porridge by adding the whey protein. He is adding calories he doesn’t need. His serve of porridge looks quite large, but the rise 1.8 and 1.7 mmol/L is low, say if you had fasting level of 5, it’s not a large increase. People always talk about spikes but that give food a negative effect. As long as the rise is within an appropriate level, you’re OK

The cooling (supposedly) changes about 1/3 of the carbs into resistant starch (which is not absorbed by your body, but very good for gut microbiom). I'm very curious especially about number 6!!

Here is a recipe i love with porridge + eggs + a bonus of resistant starch (i wish he would test it too !) I love meal prepping my '' cream egg+oat '' and let it sit at least overnight in the fridge for resistant starch to form. It's so satiating that i usually don't eat more than half the whole thing. I even often eat 1/3 or 1/4 and i feel satisfied 😮 _ usually i eat so much more oat when i don't incorporate the eggs. To mealprep for two meals, prepare 2 cute bowls. Recipe: bring 260mL of water + 50gr steel cut oat meal (half a cup) to boil (timer set on 5 min on low fire) add TWO eggs beaten/unbeaten eggs, and use the spatula for 5 min on low fire , then pour this in the two different bowls. And let it cool down and store in the fridge to allow résistant starch to form. 👍 It's very good it looks yellow just like custard. I think it's good as it is but usually i add 2 table spoon of shredded coconut to the water, or 2 table spoons of blackberries (at step 1) I love it !! I don't feel the need to add anything else. Sometimes i prepare it plain without the flavourful ingrédients, and it goes well with curcuma powder (and cinammon if you want.) For a savory version here is what i do : i use 300mL of water instead, and this version is great with a mix of dried italian/mediterannean herbs sprinkled on it , and 1 tablespoon of grated goat/sheep cheese on it 😮❤ it's delicious as well ! _

Not going to mention that the second one trailed off way slower rather than a sharp drop with the first time...?

This may be the reason. Anything made into a powder and then consumed will spike your blood sugar. Oatmeal, generally, does have a lowering affect when eaten with other foods that tend to spike blood sugar. Thus, when mixing the protein powder with the oatmeal, it dampens the spike that would have occurred with the powder alone (i.e.: protein shake). So the blood sugar of only 31 in the video may be the impact by the oatmeal on powder, which means the oatmeal dampened the protein sugar spike to 31.

Make it the night before, put it in the fridge, then heat it up the next morning. The cold cause the starches to convert to resistant starch and should result in less of an insulin spike.

Protein powder can increase glucose spike as well, perhaps adding some fat will reduce it, try adding almond / peanut butter, chia seeds, flaxseed etc

Powder of any type can absolutely cause a spike , yes - even protein. Oatmeal and protein powder are both Highly Processed Foods

What you don't understand is that what controls blood glucose is that the amount of phosphoruus in your meal is what controls blood sugar spike . If you ate oatmeal with a glass nonfat milk , which has highly available phophorus , the blood sugar will be lower . If you drink enough nonfat milk , your blood sugar will normalize . I enjoy your videos . My daughter uses the same monitor , it is very useful to learn which food effects your blood sugar .

Ferment the oats for 12 or 24 hrs the longer the better, with a sour dough starter's or discard, you will not get a sugar spike at all. And drink green tea as well
