@carultch5 жыл бұрын
Nor are prenatal diagnoses of the pregnancy timeline and due date necessarily a promise. There was an episode of paternity court, where the due date that the OBGYN estimated for the mother was a moving target as pregnancy progressed. This was the source of doubt in Father A's mind, and the mother admitted that Father B is also a possibility. The judge called on an expert to give an explanation for the due dates being a moving target, and what the likely conception date was, based on those facts. The expert identified the timeline indicated Father B would be most likely, but Father A ended up actually being the father.

I had two episodes last year, both had to be taken out via ureteroscopy. Worst pain I’ve ever been in, at it’s height IV oxy wasn’t even helping 😫 the stones themselves were actually really small (2-3mm) so I should have been able to pass them with maybe some extra fluids but my damn urethers are apparently super narrow so had to get knocked out to get them fished out. Wouldn’t wish them on my worst enemy
@caterscarrots3407 Жыл бұрын
My closest thing to labor that wasn't labor is severe menstrual cramps. I could literally feel contraction after contraction on top of an already painful, crampy baseline. This was back when I was 18 and it was only ever this bad once. The best way I could describe it is "low mid-abdominal, pulsating pain, almost like a heartbeat". I was literally crying cause I was cramping so much. Having had menstrual contractions that strong, I'm scared of how intense labor is going to be if I do ever get pregnant. In comparison, the kidney stone that I once had was nothing like that one super painful bout of menstrual cramps. It was constant, just like my cramps were, but it wasn't a crying in pain severity by any means. Only reason I knew it was a stone is because the pain was moving, slowly, about an inch down my back a day. By day 4, I had no pain at all upon waking up, meaning it went into my bladder. And then my morning urine was sandy, meaning that it just spontaneously dissolved.

The doctor who delivered my first was awful. I had never met him once (the practice was so large that I only met each doctor one time). He augmented my labor for no reason, made me push when the epidural was so high that I was too numb to feel contractions, and refused to tell me how bad the tearing was (it took me two months to heal). When I got pregnant again, I went to a new practice...they cared more, there were 5 of them so I saw them multiple times), and when I went into labor they were very hands off in a good way. I didn’t feel rushed the way I did the first time. I was very glad I switched instead of staying with the first practice.

I know patient confidentiality is #1 so I would never want you to divulge specifics about people, but I would be curious about some of your experiences with things like Surrogacy or Mothers who give their babies up for adoption. What is the emotional process like from a doctor’s POV?
@SuperMrsMar5 жыл бұрын
I agree! I am an adopted mother and would love to see more recognition for women who are brave and self-sacrificing enough to make an adoption plan. Also, I have been told about how poorly they can be treated by nurses and doctors who don't agree with their decision (thankfully this was not my daughter's birth mother's experience). It would be great to educate on this. Creating an adoption plan should not be shameful, it should be respected.
@nalomelimaia5 жыл бұрын
@@SuperMrsMar i can imagine that. I've had an abortion (great decision, the boyfriend was a terrible person who endet up treating me very badly) and the nurses wouldn't even look at me and refused to hand me a tissue when i did realise what i've done and bawled like crazy. Medical professionals should not treat any woman like that.

I don't know how it looks from the doctor's perspective but I know that lots of hospitals are very sensitive to this. Some places have specific stickers for the rooms/charts of mothers who are going to have adoptions so that they are aware and can make sure to be supportive or careful with their words.

I had my first at a teaching hospital and I LOVED it! All of my prenatal testing felt a lot more in depth because 2-3 people looked over it, when they were considering inducing me I talked to 3 different doctors at different levels of training (idk if Canada has the same outline but I know that 2 of them were doing their training after school) lol, i had an extra nurse in the room while delivering which gave me a little extra peace of mind. They always asked if we were okay with the students or training doctors coming in, and we just felt so well taken care of by double the people. Amazing.

Tara we can’t really tell you how many stitches because they are not individual stitches. It’s more like a running stitch that joins things together, it’s hard to describe. Better to ask how many packed of sutures they went through.

I agree that teaching hospitals are awesome. I have had really bad experiences with older, more experienced doctors who are complacent, not current on their information, and don’t listen. I lost years of my life to a doctor like that, and when I got a new family doctor, she turned out to be really young and hungry, actually DID RESEARCH, was thorough, was empathetic, took me seriously, and admitted when she didn’t know something and figured it out by my next appointment. She really changed my health and my attitude towards doctors. I go to a naturopathic teaching hospital where I get free treatment and I get hour-long appointments with an intern and in the last 15 minutes their supervising naturopathic doctor comes in. They’re very scientific, they tell me exactly how things work (and honestly sometimes they know everything my regular doctor knows plus the naturopathic treatments), they tell me what is supported by studies and what is not, and as a person who understands and values science and research, I’ve been really impressed by them. Everything is on the cutting edge and they still have humility and that fire in them to learn.

First of all, I’m in Scotland. My local hospital is a teaching hospital and I love it! I’ve spent years in and out and have had students (doctors, nurses, radiographers, midwives etc etc) either taking care of me or being a ‘test subject’ for them! My oldest daughter was delivered by a student midwife, who had been caring for me for a couple days and I’ll always remember her, Nicola. One time I was in under a gastro doc. During it all, they discovered my retinas react weird in light, one reacts immediately and one is delayed. The doctor asked my permission and then sent her students up in twos, to take background info and do some physical checks, to see if they all noticed it (I figuring it was to make sure they did everything they were meant to etc). It was a fun interlude with all the testing etc lol!! I always say yes to students, cos they don’t learn hands on experience otherwise! But I’m comfortable with it xx
