I absolutely LOVED this video, OB is what I plan on specializing in when I finish nursing school. I honestly could've listened to you talk about this for hours, you're one of my favorite nursing school youtubers because you remind me a lot of myself! I'm also interested in starting my nursing career in Chicago. Keep up the awesome work girl!

You would be such a great OB nurse!!!! I had my daughter 7 weeks ago and you remind me so much of my nurse that I had, and I absolutely loved her. If it wasn't for her fighting for me I would have gotten rejected from my hospital for the second time. I hope you chose to stick with this speciality because you would be such a fighter for your patient and so helpful in any way possible!! You have such a big heart

You are just like me with studying! I absolutely need to write everything out and then if I still don’t get it, I go to the book and read or try to find a KZbin video. Some people think I’m crazy with allllll my notes, but it just doesn’t stick as well if I don’t take the time to write it out. Keep shining, beautiful! Love your content. ❤️

The transition to OB/Peds in nursing school is a TOUGH one 😩 Some programs have TERRIBLE timing integrating these specialties into their programs, often because of the constraints on availability of clinical locations 🙄. However-- as you said-- it's a WHOLE different ball game, for any specialty. The main beefs I hear are about the sheer AMOUNT OF TIME spent learning OB 😧, especially when only a couple of the prospective nurses in your cohort might be interested in the pursuing it. The future of nursing programs need to be less cookie cutter context ☝️, and cater to the wide variety of nursing specialties out there to prepare us for the real world. Not saying OB and of course pediatrics shouldn't be covered, just always so heavily (Half of the program for some programs! 😱). Thanks Holley 💕

I wish nursing schools taught more about loss. All trimesters, stillbirth, and SIDS. As a mama to an angel, it’s incredibly necessary a nurse knows more than just the basics to these common (more than you think) situations.

Schools like HFC cram medsurg, OB, Pharm, two clinicals and 3 random question HESI exams (which can bring down your grade) in one semester. Then they wonder why their pass rate is 3%.... It's so much tougher than explained here. Really make sure you have the $30,000 (plus food gas clothing expenses) to waste because if you fail your final exam (after all that work) you fail the program and lose all of your time and money. Know everything about your schools program before you begin because it can be a horror story.

If there was one portion of nursing school I could skip, itd be OB entirely. Everyone has their one thing to them that’s disgusting, whether it’s sputum or vomit, for me it’s childbirth. Nothing to me is more disgusting and brutal. Definitely fearing OB, I’d rather die than see someone give birth. I’ve seen the videos and I almost passed out.

My program leaves OB for (almost) very last... we leave med-surg for its own entire year and then cover OB and Peds together in a single semester. Disappointing because OB or peds is where I want to be!
@laurenelizabeth75256 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for the upload! Not sure if you mentioned this or not, but does your program cover OB and peds together over the whole traditional semester timeframe, or do y'all split the two classes up inside of one semester? Just wondering bc that it is what my program does, and I'm super nervous!

They go HAND IN HAND in the same semester:) If that answers your question I hope!

Holley Rojek yes ma'am! Like I said, ours are crammed in 6 week intervals. I will have to power through it. Good luck to you!
@sammiels126 жыл бұрын
Why on earth would a school structure their program like that? In my adn program our classes are 4 weeks long and only do one specialty at a time. For example we have 8 weeks total for each specialty so two 4 week classes for each rotation along with the clinical for that rotation, our order after the first 8 weeks is fundatmentals>med surg 1> psych>ob> med surg 2> pediatrics> and our last 8 weeks is med surg 3, all of the rotations have clinical one day week with 2 days of 2-3 hour lectures except for med surg classes which has 2 days of clinical a week with 2 days of lecture.

Hey girl, I love your videos! I’m a senior in high school and I’m currently taking a cna course that runs through my school division. I want to be an rn and I will be going to community college next year to take my prerequisites and then I will apply for nursing school. Do you have any tips for someone applying in to nursing school? Im extremely nervous I won’t get in because it is so competitive. Thank you, and keep up with the great videos!:)
@adamwilliams53666 жыл бұрын
Stephanie Rae Yeah I was warned about that. I toured a few colleges and was told by the admission officers of the school that community college was a better choice to start out at. They said that many people apply to their colleges get in, start taking prerequisites, and then when it comes to applying for nursing school, they don’t get in. I was super disappointed to hear that because that was my top school choice so I am kind of worried about not getting in after cc.
