I think people are jumping into Nursing because they want financial stability. There's many other routes in healthcare that people can pursue instead of being a Nurse. Most people don't realize that, yes there's a shortage of Nurses, however, there's an even greater shortage of Radiology Techs, Surgical Techs, Paramedics, Veterinary Technician/Nurses, Pharmacy Techs (believe it or not Pharmacy Techs make around $30 an hour in a hospital setting), there's also many other short-term programs that are all paying much better these days (EMT, CNA, Phlebotomist, Med Tech, PCT). Most of these people are making near, or almost the same as a Nurse, without direct-care being involved. I hope you consider making a video about that.

Oh and I forgot about Dentistry too... we think there's a Nursing shortage, however, there's a Dental Hygienist shortage even greater than a Nursing shortage. A dental hygienist can do 2 to 4 years of school (similar to a Nurse) and make the same, if-not, more than an LPN or an RN. Many options out there to explore folks... healthcare is not just becoming an LPN or RN. Unlimited opportunities with the least amount of stress. Nurses and their CNA's are the most overworked group in healthcare.

@@RichardRunnar wow thank you for the insight! I certainly don’t want to deter people from nursing, however, there is a longer stigma that we “make a lot” especially when travel nursing became more popular. I would definitely consider making a video with regard to this topic! Thanks for sharing!

True, I thought about doing LVN because some people I knew always brag about how much money they make So I did CNA and started a job just to give me a general info of nurse responsibilities. I don’t wanna jump in a nursing program and spend money and time and at the end I don’t like it or I can’t do it because the program is too hard. Now I have decided what I want it’s not medical related. There are other jobs that help you pay your bills. It’s not only nurse career. They’re are some patients being neglected because the person who is assigned to take care of them is not happy of their job. They’re only doing it for money.

You can definitely go to nursing school if you want to make lots of money. Just know it’s a lot a of work and you may have to move to a new city.

Thank you for adding this! I hope I was able to partially explain this. I think I was surprised in my first year as a new graduate at how many of my peers complained about their pay.

Yes that's absolutely tree. You can also work Agency. I ended up doing that as a CNA and the pay was $35-$45 an hour. Although I quit, being a CNA was a pre-req for human nursing and I def will never pursue that environment ever again.

In my area you can definitely live comfortably as a RN even LPN but you won't be "rich". However, if you hate nursing and do it only for money you will be unhappy.

Exactly! I was super shocked at the number of students I've precepted recently who are coming in for the money or have that perception.

The money is good if you say it cost 30k to be nirse and make 60k to start compared to other degrees
@NurseMaddyW
@NurseMaddyW 4 ай бұрын
It definitely cost more than 30k to be a nurse. But that’s not including if someone were to have scholarship, take community college prerequisites, etc. So it’ll depend on how the person financially prepares. I’ve been a nurse for 3x years and I still don’t make 60k 😅 there’s still a lot of people who think we make more than we do. Of course it depends on your state, but…yeah. Certainly not complaining about how much I make. But I watched a lot of people drop out in school or quit after one year of nursing or even left to travel after a year because they were upset with the pay.

Wow $60k isn’t a lot in my opinion especially for the work that they do. I make that and I work on the business side of healthcare from home as a revenue cycle analyst

also if you don't want to actually do work, don't go to nursing school. taking care of people requires work.

I wanted to become a Nurse... so I signed up for my local Community College's ADN program, the requirements were to complete ALL pre-requisites, and one of the pre-reqs included being a CNA (every LPN or RN student applicant MUST be a CNA as a pre-req). So I completed the CNA program and started working part-time to help assist with my application. After working as a CNA in LTC, and Assisted Living... my decision was to NOT become or pursue LPN or RN. What I did instead was sign up for a Veterinary Nursing Degree program instead. Animals have always been my passion along with healthcare. I'm finishing semester one and I love it. What I need to add to all people seeking healthcare is that Nurses will never gain any respect from me... in no way, shape, or form. The way the LPN's and RN's mistreat CNA's is the most high-school experience of my life. I literally was up in a Nurses face going off on her. The human healthcare industry is super childish... its like a bunch of single mothers that are either CNA's, LPN's and RN's always fighting each other because they have made bad decisions with their lives.

I’m very sorry to hear that nursing is becoming less respected and that you have had this experience. I am very passionate about nursing and avenues beyond where the hospital places us. I think that it is great that you found something you sincerely enjoy and are passionate about. I personally disagree with your final statement. I do however agree that there are definitely toxic nurse working environments that include toxic staff nurses. I’m grateful to have found a unit currently where the entire staff not looks out for each other but our CNAs. I too was a CNA before become an RN and dealt with mistreatment. But I’ve been in work environments outside of healthcare that are similar to what you have described. Should CNAs have higher pay and more recognition? Absolutely!!! Is the nursing career still deserving of respect? I personally would say so as I have had many nurses advocate for my loved ones when physicians would not. Just something to consider.

@@NurseMaddyW you’re absolutely right. My experience was limited to my regional area and limited experience. However it is disappointing that many of the nurses I worked with are the BBL fake nailed wannabe kardashians that came for the money and not the care of people. I’m glad you reminded me that not everyone is bad in nursing. I retract my statements.

All of these points are not particular to nursing they are just jobs in general
@NurseMaddyW
@NurseMaddyW 4 ай бұрын
Not sure everyone has to study 14-20hrs per week for their job in school 😅 I agree some points could be related to other jobs. I didn’t mention the point that not everyone has to handle needles and body fluids, but that’s a big separator. Hopefully people have already considered that aspect though.
