@@teeteeme5752 Well you don't know Nigeria's history. Be it known to you now. Awo opted to work with Nnamdi Azikiwe to form the government, for him to even become Prime Minister under Zik's Presidency, but Zik didn't show a sign of wisdom and went within a twinkle of an eye to align with Northern People's Congress. Then leaving Awo to settle to become Leader of Opposition. Awo was very wise and wanted to move Nigeria to an unimaginable heights with Zik's alliance but NAY, Zik had his own visionless plan. That's our story then and till now if that deal was struck, you can imagine where the selflessness and the vision of Awo would have taken Nigeria. That's it for your information for now. The records are there.

@Martin Gbolagun my parents knows more history than you and has told me more than you can think so your opinion is irrelevant and void if you did not experience it yourself. I have heard enough from my elders. I even know relatives that are related to okotie eboh. My auntie worked with maryam babangida, through her I met shehu shagari when I was young. My father has met gowon when he was a university student in Europe a time when Nigerian students had credible scholarships to study. He also schooled in ibadan and know wole soyinka. My two uncles fought in the biafran war. They are the ones who told me about it.

Yorubas may still not be aware that they were used by Northerners to control Nigeria. But Rivers people are the worst victims of Northern tactic of divide and conquer. Rivers people were carved out of Eastern region. Then, they were given a special identity, and empowered to isolate themselves from Igbos. Subsequently, they became powerless in isolation. And their petroleum resource was easily taken from them. Every development in the North, including Abuja, is largely from the natural resource of Rivers State. When we were in the University, Northern students received bursaries and other financial support from their State Governments, but students from Rivers State and other parts of Nigeria did not receive grants from their State Government. Meanwhile, the financial support for Northern students came mostly from oil wealth of Rivers State!

Says a person from the tribe that had the opportunity to start this country off on a great note but due to greed failed. First, north was not ready, AG says NCNC let’s go it together, Zik PM, Awo FM. NCNC says no, goes instead to negotiate with north NPC. Zik takes ceremonial GG later President and Balewa the PM. Why? Because Zik knows he could never dominate appointments with his cronies in a coalition with AG. And it showed almost immediately after independence when he started fighting Balewa for the military to report to him instead of execute PM. Also the ibo domination of appointment to the point were several Ibos got multiple appointments. Case in point ikejiani and his multiple appointments across several government agencies. Still not satisfied, they organize a coup to take total control. Granted some of the partakers like Nzeogwu did not know what they were in for but not Ifejuna, the coup leader.

Igbo blame everything on others without looking at the actions they took that prompted a response. If you look at pre independent and independent Nigeria leading up to the civil war, the actions (as David ejoor calls it, the greed) of Igbos far more than any other tribe caused the problems of Nigeria. The primary actors? Zik, Orizu, Ironsi, Ikejiani, wachukwu, Ifejuna,Ojukwu etc all played roles in the unfortunate and tragic events of this period. Igbos need to come to terms with this

The role he played in Nigerian civil war... wasn't a heroic act but a desperate 1 all for his selfish interest

The role HE played? You people are shameless. Igbos declared war and think the Yoruba were going to fight their war and the Igbo war was going to take place in Yoruba land. And never forget the Igbos fled to Yorubaland for prosperity after their war, at no point have you people ever shown any remorse for how you destabilised the country for your first coup, then this war. Shameless, graceless people. Awo did more good for Ngeria than any Igbo would ever, the greed and selfish ness of Igbos is unparalled.

We destabilized the country with the first couple first to free this same Awolowo from prison Tafawa balewa put him, which Ironsi signed to free him three days before he was killed, Awolowo is a good man but his role in making sure that all the money igbos had in nigeria after the war was turned to 20 pounds over night, millionaire igbos became poor over night and missed out in the sales of British owned business was selling to nigerias to leave the country, we destablized the country by rising up to say no to corruption that was eating up the Virgin country, and corrupt leaders all over Nigeria was killed, igbos, yorubas, Niger delta, hausa fulani, all died in the coup to cleanse the country, today you can see how corruption has ruined the country because instead of Nigeria seeing the good the igbos did them as a favor, propaganda termed it an ethnic killing not minding that igbo leaders was also killed, tell me today same politicians who turned the fight against corruption the igbos did is now ruling the country since then till today, and how is Nigeria faring today because at the end corruption won and we became victims, Go and verify everything I have said here, Awolowo wasn't killed because he wasn't corrupt but akintola was killed, and remember top majors were igbo but the coup participant to tell you it's a fight against corruption all tribes of soldiers participated in that coup, go and verify, yes we are selfish and greedy but certainly since you were born have you heard that igbos came to any state and started grabbing people's property, from 20 pounds igbos was reduced to in nigeria after the war, God heard our cry and today igvos have the highest number of million aires in the country, out of every three igbo family one have a millionaire go and verify, we lost the war but won the battle. Thank you

@@martinsiloh704 You don't know what you're saying, too much falsehood in your long comment, I don't even know where to start from. Ironsi wanted to free Awolowo but was killed 3 days before...what happened to all the 6 months he's been in power...Obafemi Awolowo wrote a letter to Ironsi to free him on March 28 1966 and Ironsi ignored. Ironsi had been in power since the 16th of January 1966 was killed 29th July 1966 and you say Ironsi was going to do it 3 days later. All of sudden Igbos had millions or billions in their accounts but were give 20 pounds, jokers!!!

Nonsense what makes him the bestt - wishfull thinking. Awo was a die hard tribalist a yoruba supremacist like sunday igboho. The man was a typical nigerian politician stop this nonsense nostalgia. He was no sage or saint - just a nigerian politician. He left landed properties in lagos while tafawa balewa and the sardauna left only the most modest of houses. Awo was not an acetic nor was he a saint. Yoruba revisionists want a hero , but awo was no hero - just an ambitious politician, nothing more. Tinubu is even better at building bridges to other parts of nigeria than awilowo

That is a very jaded view of a man even his enemy said was "The best president Nigeria never had"! The statement encapsulates the life and times of a veritable sage compared to his contemporaries and all the politicians and military rulers to the present time. Love him or hate him, judge him by what he accomplished in the western region during the time Nigeria was run in the true Federal system! The mistake he made was not agreeing to let the west get on with its independence when the north said they were not ready. That would have saved everybody the tragedies that the fraudulent geographical contraption called Nigeria has endured for over six decades!
