First: Since it can be assumed that you don't know the soldier, you probably have no idea what he did and if he would deserve it. Second: It's a civilian award. Of course it can be given to a soldier, but it does not necessarily award military service. Third: It's the president who decides who to give the medal to. You can disagree, but it's no use. It's not your choice to make. Fourth (and this is a long one): Not being American myself I find the American preoccupation with their military quite disturbing. The only other countries I know that go that far in adoring their soldiers are the kind of countries you (and I) would not want to live in. Sure, having an army is important, but Americans really take it too far. Just imagine that, say, IS soldiers and their families would start putting videos online of soldiers coming home greeting their families. How would that make you feel? It's exactly the same though, in essence. And not to forget the ones with dogs going crazy when their person comes home! Strangely I never see those kind of movies with, say, oil platform workers or sailors coming home after months on sea. Less dangerous work, you might say. Probably correct, but the dog doesn't know that! Oh, and I forget the videos with soldiers demanding free stuff in shops and restaurants because they "keep you safe". LOL!! Apart from that hardly being true (and certainly not on a personal level): those soldiers are paid for their work with tax money (and rightly so). What makes them think they can ask for more wherever they go? And why wouldn't, say, doctors and fire fighters get the same then? They save our lives! And what about farmers? They make our food! How important is that!!? Can they all get free stuff? No, that is only for soldiers. Seriously, many Americans have an obsession with everything military (American military, that is) and I don't like it.

Even if he hadn't done it, the fact that someone like Joe, who is a good man at heart and has been a best friend to the President as no VP has been before, why would it be wrong for the President to award this to him and to him only?
