This has got to be one of the most underrated, rare anime gems of all time. Seriously. There was so much heart, emotion and action all perfectly intertwined into one in this show. It's one of those fantastic stories that can entertain and captivate all ages. Not to mention how beautifully animated and detailed everything is. As a 12 yr old kid it was awesome to me, and now here I am at 21 rewatching everything to the bitter end and it's STILL great! :'D A part of me wishes they made spin offs or sequels of this series, but then again sometimes a story is better off being told only once. love it to death. Thanks Sav! Productions for this wonderful gift~ _The only problem/confusion I ever had though is why Eva wanted to screw an alien. Not to come off speciest. Just sayin_.

What instantly struck out at me when I realized Jordan was about to take on the duties as Avatar was that he never did anything throughout the show. Sure he was the gunner, and sure he won the target race, but most of the time hitting his targets in races proved useless. He always tried to help and to no avail. Now, as Avatar, he can help. Such a beautiful story. Felt so bad for the guy. These are always my favorite stories, those that make you feel immense emotions like this one did. Beautifully written. Beautifully animated. I’ll forever use this as an inspiration.

It didn't make many DVD and OST sales (also why the OST 2 was cancelled as well), so they can't make another series. Coming back to rewatch this show after so many years it’s amazing how it still holds up! The ending never fails to be so bittersweet but beautiful. Jordan becoming the Avatar is so perfect because it just shows how pure of heart he was to sacrifice everything for the one he loved. I really hope someday this gets picked up again or rebooted because there is so much potential where the story could go from here.

In case y'all were wondering, cause I know I was...This is from the wiki However weeks later after Molly and the Earth team left oban Jordan seemed doing fine by him self. He had the guidance from the Creators and he is currently supervising the entire Universe. However being the avatar has its perks, like for an example working from any place at any time in the universe. Jordan would several times visit earth to meet up with Molly and chat about the old times. He was content. Hoping this fills the void after all these years!

Thank you so very much for uploading this, it really means a lot to me. Would you believe me if I told that I didn't watch this show when it was originally being aired, that I re-discovered it this past december during my family trip to Europe, got curious, watched the whole thing in 3 days and that I just finished it this very day? It was utterly, heartbreakingly beautiful, amazing, and perfect. The guy who created this is a true Oscar-winning genius and artist. Oban Star-Racers reminds me of The Hunger Games. The tragedy, the inevitability of it all, how the story centers around a 15-to-16-year-old girl who competes in a series of "games" that are "broadcast" to the masses, and how despite the "games" having a huge and life-changing effect on society the girl is competing in them for personal reasons; to save her family. The only real difference between the two is that OSR has a happy ending with a more lighthearted message. In the words of my brilliant and philosophical cousin, the message of THG is "that death is an imminence no soul can escape but the plight of humanity and its eternal search for ideological, as well as physical, liberty transcends all of its ephemeral constructions". This meaning "that in the end nothing could be done to save Prim - she was to die eventually as everyone else - but in the quest to escape Hubris, a much more epic one unfolded, the one that would result in the culmination of tyranny and oppression. No one can escape death, but the death of a single person is never more important than the well-being of humanity. Sacrifices must be made in this eternal strife for je ne sais quoi." The message of OSR is (in my own words) that every single part of this was inevitable; Maya dying, Don Wei becoming alienated, Eva growing up alone, etc. Those events along with everything that resulted from them were impossible to escape from. But it's not the inevitable that which truly matters at the very end but rather what we make out of what resulted from the inevitable.

I love this. I love this show; I watched it when it first aired and have gone back to rewatch a few times now. I remember being absolutely in love with it. Eva/Molly was an excellent character, and the voice actress gave heartbreaking performances in certain parts. I loved the entire cast. As a kid I put this show on a pedestal; coming back to it as an adult, I can see the cracks I couldn't as a kid. It has a lot of anime-esque flaws; the clichés, the kid show clichés, etc. But I forgive it more than I do with other shows because the characters are just so likeable (even Don Wei, in his own way) and I just love the story. I heard tell there's going to be a season 2 but I don't think I'll watch it. What did it for me was the characters; I don't think I would enjoy it with new characters. They'd have to work extra hard to hold a candle to Molly and the gang.

When I first watch the series I was convinced/hoped that Molly/Eva would bring back her mom and be reunited with her father but when this episode was airing I was lost I didn't know how it was going to have an happy ending. Jordan's sacriffice was one the very firsts plot twist I have ever seen and in the end Eva was reunited with her father. So it is really a bitter sweet ending. Jordan will be avatar for next 10,000 years and then a new race will be held to decide the next one. I would have liked to see Kanaleto's backstory how he did became avatar and how he became corrupted and why he still had powers despite being removed from the avatar role. Maybe his race is like Soul's, they have their own powers. Speaking of which, poor Soul he would have become the avatar if Kanaleto didn't intervine.

Jordan was the only one who didn't join the race for selfish reasons. Everyone wanted to use the power of the Avatar for some person gain, even Molly. Jordan loved Molly so much, and he knew that she did NOT want to be the Avatar because she didn't feel ready, so he sacrificed himself and became the Avatar strictly to save her and allow her to be with her father again. At first I was against this ending, but each time I re-watch this it makes more and more sense. The Creators made it clear that the whole point of the race was to make sure the power was not used for something selfish. What Jordan did is the epitome of selflessness.

Having said that the Blu-Rays just got released and the creator intends to use the funds from the Kickstarter for that to move towards making a sequel/spin-off. This is Savin Yeatman-Eiffel, a madman who came up with Oban Star Racers in 1997 and to keep creative control of the project spent years setting up his own independant animation studio, raising funds, and perfecting the animation in collaboration with Japanese studios. This show finally came out in 2006, nearly a full decade later. Do I think a sane person would likely accept this show is over? Yes. Would I be fine with the Blu-Rays and enjoying what we got and that we managed to better present and preserve the show? Yes. Do I think Yeatman-Eiffel is just mad enough that in another decade he'll still bring out a Season 2 anyway? That is one determined Frenchman.

Man... I remember watching these episodes sporadically as a kid before going to school. I loved this show but then somehow forgot about it. I only remembered the English opening music and the outro music and would ponder on where they came from. Now, at 20, I rediscovered this show while i was sick and got to watch it beginning to end in order. Such a great ride as well as a nostalgia trip... It still holds up, even after watching a bunch of good modern day anime. This time I'll make sure to remember the FIRST anime I ever watched. Definitely want to get a poster or something.

I just found this on KZbin after being reminded of it from another show. Memories hit hard since we all remember fighting for the TV just so you could watch this early as all get out. And then, here I am watching it years later and finally able to get the full feel of it. So many hoops you go through in this anime. One of the greatest things I ever watched. It's so good. I felt it so hard on my chest. I almost cried. I remember as a child to watch this show and crying at the end of the episodes because of the beautiful end song. So much heart. So good characters. The action. The way the plotted everything and how it comes so well together. The design the art. Oh my god. I love this so much. And it's so beautiful to watch all of you reacting so well to this series. Aikka & Jordan really tried against Canaletto. Wow, his being behind so much of Eva's life- what a talk. Jordan managed to climb up that high. 😶Great talk w/Eva, then restored Oban & race survivors. I liked the explanation to the end of the war; what a solution. And fun epilogue for the main cast. Great series. Thanks! 🙂

I turned 31 last week. For some reason, I remembered this anime and came to watch some of the episodes. Very profound for a children’s show. And the cartoon style was quite revolutionary for its time.

Wow. Seriously WOW. I really loved this when I was little and I never got to see the last episodes. Then grew up and I forgot OSR even exists... Until someone made a thread about old cartoons on twitter a year ago. After I remembered this show I felt like I found that one missing piece in my life tbh, a huge moment of epiphany. The bittersweet undertone of the show is strangely comforting and character designs are top notch. No words for the story, already so good but I really respect how they gave really unexpected twists and complex emotions. Everything about this show is so well done. A masterpiece. I see the Ghibli elements but rather than a copy, OSR should be up there in the fantasy/sci-fi animation royalty with Ghibli movies. It's that good. So damn good. This gotta be one of my fav animations with W.i.t.c.h and As Told By Ginger. Ah, Jordan... 🥲🌠

The interesting thing about Jordan was that he is completely absolutely 1000% regular person. Yes, he is a top gunner, but due to turrents on Arrow 2 and 3 being weak he barely killed anything. He is not the magical prince, talented racer, the chosen one of some dark deity, superpowered alien or a genius mechanic, but he pushed through and contributed anywhere he could. Wow who would've known that being irl dude in a sci-fi fantasy universe makes you badass

Agreed. I would also love for Molly to visit Aikka's homeworld since he did invite her to come see it. I would love for more interactions between them; although they will need to find a new voice actor for Aikka the same way they did for Miroku. RIP Kirby Morrow.
