You can always tell who died in battle, by their statues. If they are mounted, they fought in wars, if they are standing, they ruled during peacetime. If there is one horse leg up, they were wounded in battle, and died of their injuries later. If two legs are up, they died in battle.

Napoleon was around average perhaps a bit over average in Height, however his enemies, as a form of propaganda said that he was small, also it did not help that his personal guards, had a minimum height requirement, which lead to Napoleon appeared to be smaller than he was because of the impressive physic of his guards.

Napolean's height started with france and england having different sets of measurements....he was 170 cm (above average for the time), but french units were larger so in french measurements he was 160 cm. I think you convoluted Napoleon and Alexander the Great. Yes, Napoleon invaded Russia. He retreated because he can't sustain the supply and winter came. Both Napoleon and Alexander the Great retreated, however, Alexander retreated not because he was defeated but to consolidate his army. Pause with plans to continue further invasions l in the future. Napoleon did not die in the battlefield. Alexander the Great did die away from his homeland with a mysterious illness before recommencing his invasion plans. Most people suggests he was sick of malaria, typhoid fever, or pneumonia. It can be a combination of a lot of other diseases.

The "nothing is nowhere" at bit at the beginning bugs everyone and that's fine. There's maybe a dozen people on the planet who can really wrap their heads around this stuff. Put simply, time is related to movement in space, so if space didn't exist before the Big Bang, then neither did time; thus there is no time at which the Big Bang hadn't already happened. Regarding pre-British Empires, my favourite examples are actually about influence, not territory. Roman coins were used as legal tender across Europe as late as the 13th century because they were such high quality and so well known that everyone used them. Another good example is Ibn Battuta, a 14th century Muslim explorer born in Tangier who travelled throughout Africa and Asia as far as Kilwa, Tanzania; India, the Maldives, and Sumatra; and Beijing, China. He was good at languages, but he was always able to find people who spoke Arabic. The Abbasid and Malmuk Abbasid caliphates had been trading for so many centuries that merchants everywhere knew the language. Oh, and Napoléon was 5'6" by British measurement, but 5'2" under the French system where the inch was slightly longer. The British press intentionally left out that explanation to make fun of him.

As others have said, Napoleon returned alive from the Russian campaign. With his grand army destroyed (he lost around 360,000 soldiers in Russia) a coalition defeated him at the battle of Leipzig and later forced him to abdicate. They banished Napoleon to Elba in the Mediterranean. When he escaped Elba to France the troops they sent to capture him changed sides until he was in control of France again. The other nations didn't want a repetition of him conquering everyone again. Still on talking terms they gathered their armies to stop him again. After his defeat at Waterloo they banished him to to the remote island of Saint Helena in the Atlantic where he died.

I loved the Napoleon section just because it was so close to 1066 And All That in its half remembered history Napoleon did attack Tsarist Russia in 1812 (Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture - with canon) and as the French advanced the Russians withdrew burning crops etc. Napoleon entered an abandoned Moscow and then made a late autumn retreat which led to 500 000 French troop losses Napoleon was broken by this He lost control of some conquered nations and was exiled to Elba off Italy. He came back in 1815 tried to strike at the Allied forces and lost at the Battle of Waterloo. The British then took charge of him and exiled him to St Helena which was one of a chain of islands around the world that the British used as restocking points It is rumoured that he had fashionable green wallpaper in his rooms on St Helena The green was made with Arsenic and in the damp climate the Arsenic leeched out and contributed to his demise. I think the myth of Harold II at the Battle of Hastings (1066) dying from an arrow in the eye might be what Dave was thinking of. I was doing a little reading project on abandoned cities and remembered the Great Zimbabwe but I couldn't find much on its history which is a shame.

When Napoleon was defeated around Moscow his army largely froze and starved to death trying to retreat but Napoleon himself abandoned his soldiers and went back to western Europe. He was unable to recover from the loss of his army and was forced into exile on Elba island in 1814. The next year he went back to France and gathered a new army of loyalists but was defeated the next year at Waterloo and was exiled again, this time to St Helens from which he did not return. Napoleon was of average height for his time but would be considered short today.

There was a big difference between Nazi, German and Wehrmacht soldier. There is no such thing as black and white.. People always wonder how could the Germans follow the Austrian Painter.. Well most Germans followed Hitler because of the crisis. Germans were so depressed that it is unimaginable for us. They were seen as evil around the world as they were blamed for everything in World War I. And when you have 3 kids at home, no job, money is worthless and no food and water you will follow anyone who promises you to fix it. Because that's what the Nazis did in the beginning - they fixed the crisis and gave the Germans hope again.. Or better: They gave the German people a scapegoat to blame. And remember that antisemitism was normal in Europe for hundreds of years. Many people didn't liked the jews because they were often these rich trading people. No German at the time could have known that Hitler was so crazy. It's not as easy as we always think. Even in the Wehrmacht, only a few liked the Nazis. They were German soldiers. the general German soldier, like my grandfather, had nothing to do with the Nazis and the Holocaust. And if we are honest: what kind of "peace" could the general German soldier expect? What could have they expect after all the Nazi crimes and everyone thought that all Germans were evil Nazis. Most soldiers fought for their lives and German people against a planet. If even many of Hitler's own generals like Rommel (legend) or Stauffenberg knew that he was not quite right in the head.. Then the normal soldier knew that even more. Many Germans were manipulated by the ultimate propaganda of the Nazis and could do nothing about it. They thought to the last second that they were winning because of the propaganda. You can imagine the Nazis like a natural dark Parasite Rising from the suffering of the Germans. And the 'Problem' is that Germans are People who have a very special work and perfectionism mentality. That's not a weak enemy.. Look what the german army achieved in ww2.. Because of their unbreakable pride. Calling all German soldiers Nazis is like calling all American soldiers democrats because they were in power. We should be prouder of ourselves, after all, Germany has repeatedly fought against the entire world, one time under a bad regime. We made this modern world possible and maintain a reputation for perfection and quality. The hard-working German. Or rather, we once had this reputation. Today there is no longer a country of poets and thinkers. We are still occupied by the USA.. Because we are the most important point in Europe. And people are manipulated and have no prospects.. If you're proud of your history.. You will be called a Nazi. What I also find very interesting is that the Germanic people spread very far and are therefore the ancestors of many other people. Therefore, historians are not entirely sure how German the Germanic peoples were, but since they were the first to speak German and also created English, they were already German. In addition, the Germans were also the ancestors of the Vikings means Germanic mythology is almost identical to Norse mythology. Actually the same. I would be in favor of not only teaching the Americans that Germany is the bad guy and that they really deal with it. Most of the settlers who came to America at that time were German. Over 40 million. That's why you have so many German names. That's why the Americans love German culture and are surrounded by it, but don't want to admit it. No doubt, that the Continent of Africa has a lot of minerals. But the place the has the most minerals on the planet, is still yet to be tapped in to. It's an on-going project in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. But sadly, the Ontario people have traditionally gravitated towards a Liberal or Conservative Provincial Government, and those 2 Government parties have always proven to be an issue when it comes to mining in Canada. The abundance of minerals that exists in the Northwestern Ontario region of Canada has been known about for well over 20 years now. The "Ring of Fire" is the biggest deposit discovered so far. But there has been nothing but roadblocks and ego on the part of our Provincial governments, both Conservative and NDP. When it comes to mining in Canada, the Yukon, Alberta and British Columbia are the only Provinces/Territories that have had consistent success when it comes to mining, and that has usually been under a NDP or Independent party. The Liberals and Conservatives, just complicate things, and create a whole bunch of "Red Tape". Just look at Alberta. They have moved almost entirely Conservative in the last 10+ years and their mining has taken a huge hit. Not just in their oil mining, but their precious metals as well. And instead of the Alberta citizens doing something about it, and voting in somebody different and with new ideas, they get caught up with identity politics and start blaming all their PROVINCIAL problems on the Federal government just to shit on Trudeau. And just for the record I'm not a fan of Trudeau or most of his Cabinet. Other than legalizing weed, I don't see anything good that his government has done. Dave, there's more slaves in Africa today than there was in the ENTIRE world during the Transatlantic slave trade, and the US only made up around 3-5% of the entire slave trade, the other 95-97% of the slave trade was done by Europeans and Middle Easterners. Great reaction as always bro!

He was kind of giving the impression that the world's population got out of hand because America ended slavery. I want clarification, because this is unacceptable to think this way, because it's completely untrue. Or are people just incapable of separating the two or should I say 3 things? The fact that America ending slavery has nothing to with the fact that modern day Africa has tons of slaves.
