This is the fella with the cleft palate! I'm thrilled to see him handsome, strong bodied, intelligent and living a good life. This video has inspired me to work hard with my 7 month staffy. It would seem both of our dogs are extremely food driven over toys.

Your dog is so well trained! Do you think a Staffy would be a ideal breed for service dog work? I'm looking for a service dog prospect but I don't know what breed to choose. Ive narrowed it down to a medium bully breed or medium shepherd/collie breed.

not a huge fan of so much food and tricks (just not my thing, although do I appreciate the work!) but this must be the best looking staffy I've seen for a long time!
@trickyterriers3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this comment! Very kind. Can I ask why you dont like to see this many food and tricks? Hunter has 5-6 sessions of around 20 minutes every week. He is fed raw, but we use a cold pressed natural kibble combined with some dried meat to train. Since we mainly use kibble, his diet stays balanced. We use toys to train other tricks, when we want higher enthusiasm, but dogs of this breed easily get overexcited, so attention and toys are not suitable to train every trick to every individual. We do trick training simply to give his mind some extra work, not because we really use it😁

@@trickyterriers I understand the idea but prefer more natural relation and have no need for such intense focus in exchange for food. Also if the dog already understands what I want from him I wouldn't reward non stop like this (too much excitement for my liking). Btw my Leavitt bulldog is the same - good food motivation, crazy when the ball is in use.
@trickyterriers3 жыл бұрын
Makes a lot of sense! We don’t reward for every trick in regular sessions but if we plan time for filming, we keep his enthusiasm up and keep him slightly more motivated. Makes the video nicer 😂

Of course he does this ! You’ve got your hand full of treats ! That’s just silly tricks. A better bond is just unconditional love. Make another video when you’ve got that ! That comes with the lifetime of the dog ! No secret ! And no tricks . With enough treats my staffy will drive me home from the pub !

do not hesitate. this dog's only religion is to have you happy. if dog friendly makes you happy, this dog will do his best for that.

@@danpetre1520 I would’ve never thought that. I know its eager to please, but you’re saying with enough socialization and consistent training you can significantly curtail dog aggression?

@@xbox360blows Thanks 4 considerin my opinion. I have a complicated experience. Very. Since Aug 94 to 6th Jan 2005 it was Abby - my sister and my love - a psi damaged 6months y-o female bullterier. Big and powerful for a female. Very. Larger than most of the males but so wrong. Loved her, truly. Took me a while to correct her. Still wonder if I ever made it. Now (complicated again) ive picked a Staffie. Actualy, Staffie is my dog. This one is 8-9 weeks old and he is Perfect. I truly think he is gonna be the best dog of his breed and I have my reasons (me, his breeders and some other guys). He is beautiful and correct. Maybe I am not. I can still recognize Abby, some moments. And now is that - before collecting him, there is Dex the cat. He is also 8 months old, a stray and some Turkish Angora (vet said), crying for 3 days in the streets. They are now like brothers. Of course, Staffie bites Dex. Guess what - Dex runs and fights back. Circus 4 free. Staffie feels like a rhino. Dex feels like a flake. Sometimes, it feels like the Staffie is gonna kill Dex - but they are just playing. Brothers. I have another 2 adult cats, 5 yo, sisters. Everybody is happy. Me-the first, the last, the most. Always experience and never judge. And never fear.

The best breed I've come across. Getting a dog friendly staffy is a lottery. My first staffy lived 15 years and never attacked a living creature. He would be so easygoing to the point that he would not try to dominate another dog at all. If I'm being honest he was more submissive/neutral. A dog challenged him and he would blow them off unless they annoyed him too much then he'd stand his ground. In fact the only thing I saw him do that was pushy would go for my pitbull's food bowl after he wolfed his down his own food. The housemates never fought over food. I lost him last year to stomach cancer; best dog I ever had. I currently have a 7 month old that is domineering with other dogs, especially puppies close to his size. I don't like it, but at least he is sensitive to my voice. He's raised with the pitbull that's now the elder as well as a cat. The cat and first staffy were best friends. The cat just recently started rubbing up on the pup after 5 months and that's his way of acceptance. Like I said, I believe this be a lottery with the breed in terms of being dog friendly. However they are domesticated animals and not wolves. You let your pack know what's allowed and what isn't.

@@TLEE1977 That’s very interesting. I’m surprised that you were able to come across one that docile. Makes me wonder if you are more likely to get one like that from a “show line” rather than a working line. I’m sure ones from show lines still have the tenacity & dog reactivity which speaks to your point about it being a toss up. Training the dog on what’s acceptable and not is true however it’s easier when the dog is naturally predisposed a certain way. Thanks for sharing your experiences, it really helps!
