What a clever boy , goes to show with a little patience and repetition you can train your dog to be a good natured and obedient part of the family , well impressed at only 4 months old

Isn’t he smart! We’re so impressed with his development still now at almost 10 months of age. If a dog has a drive for food, toys or affection, there’s always room for training! Genetics play a huge role but training always plays its part. With Hunter in particular it’s working wonders!

Impressive! I wonder how many hours it would take to get a dog this well trained. I long for the day.

What age did you start training Hunter and how long did it take for each task in the training session? I have a 9 week old Staffy puppy and he is only at the point of learning his name and working on sitting. Do you have videos of Hunter as a younger pup to show this?
@sportingwithstaffords3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jenny! Hunter’s mum raised her pups in our house so we had everything in hand from day one really, with regards to getting him used to society. I guess we started training at 6 weeks and at around 10 weeks we decided he would stay (since he was born with a cleft lip he would not be sold to just anyone as we would prefer for him to stay intact but not ever pass on his condition). We trained daily, in short sessions, but things like sit, stay and come were what we started with. Jordy quickly became his main handler and does 20-30 minute sessions 5-6 times a day now, they used to be 10 minute sessions twice a day as he was younger. Some tricks he has down in one or two sessions, more difficult things they’re working on now take weeks though. I don’t know if I have any videos of him being trained at around the 2-3 month mark but if I do find them I might share them to instagram in the near future, as the quality will be poor!

Staffords are predisposed to dog agression, so no. But at 10 months now he does this along busy roads, on hikes, in parking lots and in hardware supply stores. He does very well under distractions. That’s based on how we trained him. Staffords get overexcited if they have certain expectations, so outdoors he was never greeted by dogs or people. It’s easy, really ;)

well thats not a purebread english staffy thats for sure!!
@sportingwithstaffords3 жыл бұрын
There definitely ain’t no bread in him, you’re right on that front.. He might not look like the stocky short snouted showline you’re used to seeing but he sure is a pure bred stafford, and well bred at that. Need his pedigree info? ;)

Not a good habit to give so much treats...
@sportingwithstaffords3 жыл бұрын
Any reason why? These are a balanced kibble. We practice intermittent praise, meaning sometimes he gets one treat, sometimes several, and sometimes he has to do multiple tricks for a treat. He was very young here, so we were still practicing and shaping some of the commands. Don’t see an issue.
