This should have been in the movie. It is a short scene, but it helps to illustrate Obi Wan’s doubts about Anakin, while showing that Mace Windu really does respect Anakin as a Jedi.

You do realize that Mace and Anakin are the Jedi in order that resemble each other the most, don't you? Anakin and Mace are both arrogant,both extremely powerful,both good swordsmen,both loyal to what they love (Anakin is loyal to his friends, Mace loyal to the Jedi order),they have both strong dark side tendencies,both were the youngest jedi when they were admitted at their respective times to the council

Ikr… It kills me when everyone says Mace or the Order in general were at fault for Anakin’s fall. They definitely made mistakes in handling him but 90% of it was on him. Nothing they did to him justified what he did. The only thing completely unjustified that they did that I can think of is throwing Ahsoka under the bus and refusing to apologize for it afterwards.

@@russellmxnia I agree. The choices they made in regard to Anakin were mostly justified. It basically comes down to Anakin wouldn't let things/people go and desired power.

Even when Anakin went all emo “wahhh you didn’t make me a master” and Mace was just like “take a SEAT” instead of what Anakin really deserved at that moment lol Anakin didn’t show respect to the council decision but expected it back.

@@84rinne_moo Yeah Mace was (obviously) right all along to not trust Anakin. As for the Council not making Anakin a master, they only gave him a Council seat because the Chancellor pressured them to do so. They weren’t disrespecting him by going out of their way to grant him a council seat and not making him a master.

Even before that when Palpatine tells Anakin he wants him to represent him on the council, Anakin says like they appoint their own members and that they would never accept it. But then not like 5 secs later, they are like "ok we'll accept this but not lightly. But you can't be a master." And then Anakin to respond like that, it's like come on Ani lol

For me, Mace was kinda weird about his opinion about Anakin throughout the trilogy. Ep1: Qui-Gon wanted to train him, Mace was against it. Ep2: Obi-Wan expresses his concerns about Anakin, Mace speaks about him positively (says he has exceptional skills and only he can bring balance). Ep3: Obi-Wan fully trusts Anakin, Mace doesn't trust him at all. I wish Mace's issues were more explained.

I think it kind of was explained well. - In Episode one he resists because Anakin is too old to train, and they also sense his dark future. - In Episode two there is presumably no sign of Anakins troubles until Padme is re-introduced and also the stuff with his mother, Mace probably would have no reason to distrust him. - In Episode three anakins behaviour is deteriorating and he becomes increasingly closer to Palpatine (who Mace does not trust) and as a result distrusts Anakin too.

I know this was deleted and changed for specific reasons, but it gives me the impression that mace’s responses have less to do with Anakin and more to do with mentoring Obi-Wan on how to deal with a padawan.

@@jacksonyon5276 there is a different version of this scene in the movie if I recall the only things he says about anakin in this movie are positive if not compliments mace doesn’t seem bothered by anakin until the clone wars starts I don’t know why though

@@11bluekitkats Mace’s rise in doubts about Anakin in III, IMO, was most likely about his close ties/friendship with the Chancellor who many in the Council had questions about; who had managed to stay in office way past the time that his term was over. Also maybe due to Anakin’s growing lust for more powers of the force

Mace needed a bigger arc or more character development I'd even say maybe they should make movies or a series about some of the council members and where they started and over time how they became who they became they could make disney plus shows Aayla Secura, Ki Adi, Mace, and should do the same with sith like Exar Kun and maybe a story on how Revan first joined the order before his fall with Malak

Maybe, if even on a subconscious level, Mace at that point felt it was too late now to worry about that and he had to go back to his core teachings and trust that Anakin would do the same.

I get the feeling as if Mace was happy to see Obi Wan was in doubt of Anakin since one should not just take things at face value. Maybe like Yoda Mace knew the balance to the force meant the destruction of the way the things are... just an idea..

Not really there's a lot that happened during that time, like the geonosis arena all of the clone wars and anakin killing dooku.

@@zombie_intruder but after Anakin killed dooku mace still denied him the rank of master. Which doesn’t make the most of sense since obi wan was given the rank of master after slicing maul despite not going through the Jedi trials

Mace isn't so much in full support of Anakin as he trusts the wisdom of the council, and if they in their collective wisdom have given him a task, then all they can do is have faith that he will choice the right path for the task as the council has assigned to him. Which he did. He was in favor of following their orders and leaving Obi-wan to die. It was Padme who said she was taking her ship to rescue Obi-wan that he had his excuse to go against them.

I think the most important deleted scene in CLONES was when Padme and Anakin have dinner with her parents and her mother and sister notice that Anakin is in love with her. It is when Padme looks at him through the window speaking to her father that she sees him as a man and love interest for the first time. Replace that scene with the one where they frolic in the fields like 9 year old children.

Just listening to Grand Master George and Jedi Knight Ben for a few seconds is enough to say, "See? Now those two dudes are film MAKERS...real ones!!" "No false prophesy crap here". No amateurs or wannbes or nobodies. I bet Lucas could go to Dullardland and offer them half of what they paid and he'd prolly get it back. (cause he prolly hasn't even touched that stars wars money. It's just sittin' someplace acquiring sick amounts of interest.) That would be a great "What IF" story...What if Lucas never sold to a buncha psycho madmen

I see why they would change/combine those elements of the scene. It goes against Mace’s trait of being negative of Anakin. However, let’s say the script is completely flipped from the very beginning and Mace is Anakin’s biggest supporter. His answer to Obi-Wan’s concerns here are still absolutely the “Jedi way” to answer it. It’s the classic superiority complex of the Jedi. It’s great for story though.

George Lucas can't write dialogue to save his soul. I wish he would have let someone else write for him. They say nothing to one another but dance around the subject and Mace totally blows off Obi-wan's rightfully concerned worry for Anakin. The whole Chosen One thing is ridiculous. There is no balance. Ever. Certainly not from ONE person.

Hey Mace, how’s that hand doing again bruh? After Qui-Gon, all of the Jedi failed with Anakin. I find it hard to believe that not one, could connect with him and sort out his issues. If he is indeed the chosen one, you don’t rely on faith to fulfill the prophecy, you preemptively look for ways to make it a reality. It’s almost as if the Jedi didn’t really want him to become the greatest of all Jedi and were content with Yoda being top dog. The signs were all there and some of them were fully aware, including Yoda and they did nothing.

He could connect with some of them, but that was work/duty hours. The Jedi didn’t seem too keen on prying into the personal lives of its members, nor did some even seem to know or maybe want to deal with and/or understand such. With him being the Chosen One? They don’t know if he was or not. They can’t idolize him. If he was, then they didn’t want to stand in his. And they didn’t want to be responsible for messing things up. If he wasn’t, then they shouldn’t buildup his ego for a fall. So, many are mindful of their dealings with him. And that makes it harder for Anakin to connect with them.

I feel like there’s a lot off base with this. About Yoda, he was the grand master because he is the oldest and most experienced Jedi and that is who holds the title of grand master. Additionally it’s not like Yoda is dictator on the council. I think he imparts his wisdom but the other council members are free to talk and influence decisions as well. In regards to Anakin, Obi-wan taught him all he knew and tried to instill in him the values he needed to make the right choices. In the end, those choices are Anakin’s to make. There’s a scene where Padme and Anakin are worrying about their situation and Padme suggests telling Obi-wan that he could prob help them. But Anakin refused that suggestion, for whatever reason (either worries he’d get in trouble or just too much ego to ask Obi-wan for help?) although that scene is interesting after you see some scenes in the Clone Wars show, which Anakin knew about Satine and you think he would have thought Obi-wan would understand
