So, since this is going to keep coming up - Yes, it is obviously James Earl Jones's voice as Darth Vader. BUT, Respeecher, the tool that was used to help create Luke's voice in The Mandalorian is also credited at the end of the episode. Yeah, it is technically JEJ's voice as Darth Vader, but, we don't know if they actually had the actor record brand new dialogue as the character OR if they used samples from original trilogy material to create new dialogue. The Deadline article that keeps being referenced only states the obvious, that he voices Vader. That's not a confirmation that JEJ recording new dialogue. Either way, this once again leads us to the conversation if this level of detail is necessary just for the sake of continuity.

The suit is heavy and restricts his movements and, although still very strong with the Dark Side, he is not as powerful as he was before his injury. Totally toying with Obi-Wan like a predatory cat toys with it's prey. For Vader it's not about killing him it's about him letting his former master see what he's become all the while inflicting pain whilst not killing him to further sow the seeds of fear. Him letting him go allows him to gain strength off of the fear while also continuing the hunt that fuels his hatred.

Vader is doing to Kenobi what he feels Kenobi did to him. Vader is maiming Kenobi, letting him linger in anguish. Like Cary Elwes' character in The Princess Bride...this is not a fight to the death, but "to the pain." Some people were complaining that the fire should not have stopped Vader and he would be more aggressive. This is not a good take, since the direction this series is taking is that Vader (and his minions) clearly want Kenobi to suffer more than any person has suffered. Moreover, an even worse form of anguish (as demonstrated in the Saw films) is to let someone have an ounce of hope so they do not give up and give in to death. Vader is going full evil in this series and Kenobi is at the pointy end of it. I think this is brilliant storytelling.

I absolutely love that Anakin was one of the best offensive duelists before turning, and he still is after, but out of pure fear and brute force.

This show really is amazing to me for so many reasons but the main reason is that when I was a kid watching the original 6 movies multiple times I had always fantasized about seeing what happened in between episode 3 and 4. It was always the most interesting part of the timeline for me and I truly never thought I would ever see what happened. We are honestly so spoiled with fan service and I think we take it for granted these days but personally I am grateful for all of it.

I never would have guessed it was Zack Braff as Freck, but knowing after the fact it seems so obvious.

We finally got a Star Wars horror story. Vader was never as scary to me through the original movies, but THIS was scary. The raw brutality of this show so far is the dark side of Star Wars we’ve needed. I’m a huge prequel fan and I’m not bothered by the choices made here at all. It fits perfectly.
