I loved that what Obi-Wan said to Luke about his father being killed by Vader wasn't some stuff he made up to deceive Luke, nor was it necessarily what he believed, but it was verbatim from his father. So the whole "a certain point of view" is actually Vader/Anakin's point of view, not necessarily Obi-Wan's. Loved how it gave some layers to that whole subplot from the original trilogy. On another note, I feel the hologram message in A New Hope is not a plot hole and is being over-thought by fans. Leia specifically mentions that he served her father during the clone wars because she's providing context for why they're asking him to join in the Galactic Civil War with the Death Star imminently ready. She seemed to know that Obi-Wan and Ben were the same person in the film and that in itself was a plot hole the show actually fixed. I genuinely loved this show all the way through! The last episode in particular was just pure 👌

In it's entirety the battle between Obi-Wan and Vader was truly heart breaking. But from a technical stand point it was a phenomenal light saber dual. And Obi-Wan proves that he doesn't need the high ground, lol. This battle has two parts, Obi-Wan accepting that he must face Vader even if it means his death and Vader going full power against him. Then Obi-Wan tapping into his love for all those around him and going OP on Vader and proving he still is the Master, and Vader is just a padiwan. And yes, when you factor in the dialogue, the acting, the music, and what it means to each character the fight is truly heartbreaking. But it is definitely the highlight of the whole series.

The best aspect of Obi-wan, is Vader gave him the opportunity to forgive himself. When Vader says, "I killed Anakin." You can see Obi-Wan's facial expression change from self-loathing, to sadness for his friend. I think Vader showed compassion for his friend by taking ownership of his path, allowing Obi-Wan to forgive himself and move closer into the light of the force. This also showed there is still good in Vader, and he is still a complicated person. In the beginning of the series, Obi-Wan had placed himself in purgatory, by the end, he was on a path towards enlightenment.

When Vader says “then you will die,” that mirrors his battle with Ahsoka in Rebels when he said the same line in response to Ahsoka promising not to leave him.
@februaryschild02162 жыл бұрын
I think Vader left Reva the way he did when she was a youngling; near-death and alone...aaand the way she left the Grand Inquisitor. Vader doesn't care about those future rebels. He sees Obi-Wan getting away. He is obsessed. It really did make him make stupid mistakes. The Emperor was right to doubt him. Since these baby rebels got away, a full-blown rebellion formed, many Jedi survived and some almost killed Vader in the comics. His need to win blinds him. I see now that Reva was the redemption that Obi-Wan could never get for Anakin. She is chasing Luke as Obi is fighting his father. Her choice NOT to kill a youngling, her choosing mercy over vengeance freed her. Had Anakin made the same choice, imagine what his life would be like. Through that scene with Reva, Obi-Wan finally got to save a youngling/padawan - even if it wasn't his own. He could put his guilt about not being able to save Anakin behind him for good. I didn't know that where they were taking her. I saw the parallel between her and Vader early on, but this redemption is especially sweet after the duel.

You missed that when Palpatine is talking to Vader he almost repeats Kylo Ren's line about how you should let the past die. Also, Reva's arc perfectly mirrors Obi-wan's: one the master, one the learner, both free themselves from Anakin's darkness. Very well done.

He started the fight with Vader in his stance, and ended it in Qui Gon's. You see this again at the beginning of the fight with Maul in Twin Suns. Also, Owen punched Reva in her stab wound, brutal. Qui Gon leads Kenobi into Beggar's canyon and you missed an opportunity to use Poe when Vader contacted Sheev via holo. We also just got to see Vader do the first fully automatic force crush on film. He not only gave Obi the high ground but pretty much all of the ground in the general vicinity. Obi later uses the high ground on Vader again albeit a lot more literally.

Vader let Reva live exactly for this reason basically. Let her stew in the idea that she is no threat to him and he does not fear her revenge, forcing her to find revenge elsewhere, like the person who used her and left her to fight Vader alone. That's why they left her like that w that thought in her head.

"Revenge can do wonders for the will to live". Some people might call the stab a plot hole, but it made me think of the Bane books, when Bane digested a deadly poison and not only held it back for days with no sustenance, but was able to travel cross-planet to find a cure. Fits right in with Kylo Ren beating his wound to give himself a buff. I agree wholeheartedly with your take

I had my hand over my mouth for the entire Kenobi-Vader fight. I mean holy sh*t man! I was in pure awe for the second half of their encounter. The way Vader’s voice distortion was wrecked and he kept going from Vader’s broken voice to Anakin’s weakened and struggling voice…. I mean rip my heart out. They were able to SHOW us just how sad and broken Vader really is. You could just feel it. To go from an OP and dominant Vader figure to the broken state that Obi-wan put him in…. I’m impressed. And to mix in Obi-wans pain and regret for what he ultimately did to his best friend… this is the deepest star wars course of events ever

I loved this episode. Obi-Wan and Vader's dual might have been one of the best saber fights in the entire franchise. All the easter eggs and callbacks. Really my only complaint is the Star Destroyer should have easily destroyed both ships, even if they weren't trying to.

@indiana_holmes2 жыл бұрын
@@AndrasMihalyi I agree, the lack of TIE fighters was weird, but Anakin/Vader does stupid shit when he's over confident. He always has. So, I imagine chasing/harassing a crippled starship until he finally sees it blow, brings him more pleasure than having TIEs blast it to bits. As for letting the transport go, Vader was only focused on following and defeating Kenobi (again being stupid and stubborn and single-minded). He orders the entire destroyer to follow Kenobi. The GI attempts to talk sense into Vader, but he and the rest of the crew are not going to disobey a direct order from Vader... It's not lazy writing, it's an emotional and irrational Vader.

I was just happy to see some SUBSTANCE infused into what these actors were being asked to do. I was talking with a co-worker today, more of a "Prequel Baby", and he asked what issues I might have had with the 2nd trilogy. #1 was how Show Don't Tell turned into Tell Don't Show...heavy handed dialogue and nudges to the audience with references without actual narrative weight. He was like "oh okay, yeah, I get that" (he's a good kid). Anyways I feel this show gave the OG fans what they were craving, which was something the performers could sink their teeth into. And sink they did. Bravo to that.

That apology at the end... That hit so hard... Obi spent that whole time thinking he had failed Anikin, when it was Anikin who was the one to fail Obi... He allowed himself to be given in by the Dark Side. A kid who was once filled with light and hope became sinical, and a coward. Instead of confronting his fear, and his guilt, he gave in and coward to it. Always looking for others to make him feel better about how shitty he felt. First Obi, the Palpatine, who he now gives his "loyalty" to, thinking what...? That things will get better? All that wasted potential to make change... I took Reva hunting Luke as having figured out that "the children" were Anakin's from the way Bail Organa spoke of them... so her desire to kill Luke was to kill Anakin's child as a way of feeling she was punishing Anakin... not just because she wanted to punish Obi-wan or just want to kill someone. It makes her placing Luke in her role as youngling and herself in Anakin's role as assassin more meaningful, IMO.

Smashing review, Ryan! And you nailed the substance of this amazing episode and why it emotionally presses all the right buttons. The callbacks and fan-service were ample, but not forced or overdone, all either sweetly subtle nods that brought a smile to those who caught them or open winks to the audience that were tempered with enough warmth and sentimentality to bring both tears and laughter. Everyone was birthing cows left and right about the possibility (i.e. "ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY!!!") that the series was gonna violate canon, making many fans, in my rarely humble opinion, unable (or unwilling) to watch even a minute of it with an open mind, but now, after seeing ALL of it (which one should do before forming opinions that will be screamed loud and indignantly to the entire internet) and pondering all of the interrelated details not only do the events of Obi-wan Kenobi fit nicely with what's already come before and after, I can easily see myself and others being very soon convinced that what came later would make far less sense without them. And done right, that's exactly how new stories set between well known eras SHOULD feel. Any small hiccups aside, I think this series bullseyed that emotional continuity with fans, or at least us fans able to watch the whole thing before deciding whether or not Deborah Chow had crapped on the fans, ruined Star Wars forever, and was gonna put Disney out of business by week's end. (Coz sadly enough, that's some of the shit that idiot haters hurl from their basements coz getting a life is hard.) But no, this was excellent Star Wars, and I'm proud as peach pie of everyone involved. It'd been a long minute since the words "May the Force be with you" had brought tears to my eyes, and Obi-Wan's parting wish for it to Leia reminded me once again why I fuckin' LOVE Star Wars. ❤️

I felt like they drew a lot of parallels and inversions between this fight and Vader's with Reva last week too. He appears so much more enraged and desperate for victory this episode because of how effortlessly and almost apathetically he took her down in the last as someone he didn't consider a threat or worthy of using his whole power against. I was actually shocked when he lunged at Obi-Wan with a scream the way he did because I think that's the most we've actually seen Vader care about a fight, going into a full-on unguarded attack out of pure rage rather than the cold, sweeping death machine we usually see

He slso says "I am not your failure." I believe Anakin said this line, not Vader. I believe Anakin was telling Obi-Wan, it's not your fault. This was the closure that Obi-Wan needed as Anakin helped him to move on passed the grief of the purge.
