Amazing to think that there are several folk in there that are still household names, almost three quarters of a century after their deaths. Lovely stuff.

The year before I was born. I think I'll read 1984 again, read it in high school in the mid 60's. He was younger than our son.

Alan Hale should really be referred to as Alan Hale Snr to distinguish him from his son, Alan Hale Jnr, who was also a noted character actor, especially in TV roles (Gilligan's Island, Casey Jones)

Alan Hale Sr. and Alan Hale Jr. - sounds like a classic case of like father, like son in the world of acting!

A lot of people then smoked heavily, drank and living into 50s or 60s then was considered more full life compared to now where people are living well into 80s and 90s or so. I have one grandfather left who is 90 years old but is currently in hospice.
