Why would anyone commit suicide at 93?

Ana Afonso had been through hard times since many years. Unfortunately when she was feeling down and didn't have the perspectives she expected, she used to turn to alcohol. She had 2 kids and unfortunately sometimes she just couldn't take care of them and they would stay with their father. Before this fatality she was working as an Uber driver. She threw herself from the top of one of the 2 biggest bridges in Lisboa, capital city, and unfortunately the authorities couldn't save her and took her from the water already deceased.

To my observation, the compassionate comments in the comment section are the most reasonable and nuanced. The rest tend to be quite narrow minded from what I read.

What sucks is if you even so much is think about speaking about it to somebody your red flag locked away as insane have all of your autonomy taken away and are deemed too crazy to know what they're talking about so they can't tell us that they're okay and kind of treated as a criminal. This country has a mental health problem that needs to be discussed but the powers that be want us to kill ourself. I get passing suicidal thoughts and genuine thoughts every 3/4 months so a good 25 -30 % of a typical year I lose so when I’m ok the relief is massive and I don’t take a second for granted cos the depression can strike me very quickly with no real triggers, very frightening how quick people can’t handle being here and wanting to disappear into thin air.. 🙏

I could never commit suicide but I've been down to that level where I can understand why ppl do. I think you have to persevere and understand that there are new horizons to be experienced and explored even when familiar roads are cut off. God has a plan.

I just don't get it. Honestly I don't. I suffer from bad depression BUT!!! BUT!!! THERE IS ALWAYS HELP AND HOPE!!!!..And I'm complete loner. Have lived alone for over 5 yrs senior female and I HAVE A SHRINK..that I have video appts every 2-3 mths re: medicine. AND THERE ARE FREE CLINICS..HOT LINES, ETC...JUST DO IT!!! I loved Klaus Nomi music. Learned about his songs shortly after college in 1983. Wow, he was an acquired taste but some enticing once you get it. I collected his albums and CDs. Marilyn Monroe was not murdered. Whether it was suicide or accident is the question. She was saved from overdose just weeks before. She was a pill abuser. Sometimes people will take a lethal dose of pills then reach out to friends not caring either way if they are saved or die. I know someone that did this. They were luckily saved. MM was NOT murdered.

So true. I used to think this was a completely selfish act, but so many people take their lives in the sincere belief that their loved ones, friends, fans would be better off without them. They feel such a burden. Or they feel that they cannot function in this world anymore and would be a drain on the world. It is so horribly sad.
