I have a question with example #2. Why "an interesting challenge" is not considered as the whole objetc complement?

If you are asked to identify the complete object complement, then you would include all of those descriptive words that come before "challenge". However, this example focuses on the root noun without the descriptors. Therefore, "challenge" is the simple object complement... similar to the simple subject vs. the complete subject of a sentence. Hope that helps!
