Absolutely brilliant lecture. The coach is speaks simple yet offers pinpoint variations while also being very likeable and friendly. Helped me to understand this opening by heart and to play the strongest moves, not only those natural moves with dimly understood plans. Intrigued me to watch other videos of him and also of his channel (which I didn't rate highly up to now). 👍

Thank you for these videos Mio. You are such a character and so entertaining. Analysis is top notch. I won a few quick games already in Budapest Gambit and Danish. I will definitely message my opponents next time and tell them to blame TheButcher for the mate.

If you use the engine, it will find better moves for black, white actually has only slight advantage if both black and white play perfectly. b6 is not forced checkmate for white, even tho IM Miodrag Perunovic wants that to be the case.

Very nice work, thank you very much! One remark though: the position at 44:32 (two white rooks and a few pawns versus four black minor pieces) should not occur in a long game since black should rather play 21... Nxd4! instead of 21... Bxa8 and then white is only slightly better, if at all. That might kill the whole variant starting with 15.Ne2, since 15.0-0-0 now seems to be much better for white.

After Nge2 blacks best strategy is to setup a hedgehog formation with d6 and Nbd7

Eika Mikiku its alright. ( whites best way to reply would be to play an early d5 where the position resembles an old indian after e5). 5...c5 sadly doesnt work after 6.d5 a6 7.a4 where black is miserable. i personally like 5...d5 6.e5 ng8!? where this time wasting move is justified partly by the lack of coordination of the knights. black should prob aim to play it a la french and set up g6 h5 nh6-nf5 formation on the kingside, very slow but white really cant open the position easily)

Good lecture, but I think the format would be better if you started with the mainline first, and then went on to the variations black could play.

if black plays like that ...you crush him regardless any defence he does ( taking g2 is something that any player over 1500 elo would't do, the devastating attack of queen and pawn on f5 is too clear). So you didn't obliterated Owens Defense, you just obliterate a bad player.

btw I don't know why Nc3 is an option at all. It looks like a mistake after blocking the c pawn and delay the king side castle. Obviously it's playable but shouldn't we try to find the most logical and flexible moves in a positions? So after 4 Nf3 even stories like f5 are no longer something a player needs to analyse.. Why should I know if f5 is still a thread when I just play the better Nf3 instead of Nc3... every analysis after 4 Nc3 is just a loss of time in my opinion... Maybe my point here depends on playing style.... (when I say looks like a mistake then I mean the position really looks less healthy.. IM understands what I mean.. after several years players can see best moves before understanding why it's the best move, because it 'looks' better hehe)

not a bad video but most of it doesnt really apply agaisnt high rated owen defense players. none of those would play f5 early in the owens (it really only works in the english defense) or prematurely move the bishop after nge2. in the d5 line comp analysis prefers ng8!? where the knight placement is subpar for white. but his development gives him an edge of about 0.4)
@milankotevski1663
@milankotevski1663 3 жыл бұрын
I don't know what kind of engine you used 3 years ago, but after Ng8 retreat, Stockfish NNUE evaluates the position at around +1.1 for White.

@@milankotevski1663 which version of stockfish is that?
@miguelfonseca1104
@miguelfonseca1104 3 жыл бұрын
@@milankotevski1663 the only line that's testing after 6...ng8 is 7. nb1 ( after 0-0, the position is 0.4ish as is nf4, although black has be careful to not play a premature c5 sometimes). After 7.nb1 ba6 8. bxa6 nxa6. engines give different readings ,although of course white has a pretty decent advantage. for example stockfish 11 at depth 40 gives 0.6. i think stockfish 12 gives a higher eval. idk. you tell if the position looks +1 because it seems far better than the lines you suggest black plays. I find black's formation sturdy here.
