Alhamdulillah. I have a photo of this day, but this is my first time seeing video. This was the first of three trips to the U.S. from London for Oboade in the early 1970s and I believe the only time Mustapha came with them. What I heard about this day was that it was a cold morning in Seattle and they were not at all happy about being asked to go out in the park for a recording. And you can defintiely tell, because they take a long time to get warmed up and never really get into full action. I saw them perform on this tour at the University of Washington/Seattle and I remember well. Yacub and Obo would dance on Gome to give the serious lead dancers, Ismaila Addy (back left) and Thomas Annan (on the supporting drum), a break. Notice how different the gentle traditional dance moves are compared to choreographed versions of the dance. Gome is just lovely when it's done traditionally.
