All I remember from this campaign was hearing "Yeah, Recker. You're in charge of the squad." followed by Irish refusing to shut up about every judgement call and instead doing his own thing. Like everyone is looking at me going "Why are these refugees on the boat" and I'm just looking at them going "Dude, I have no idea. Apparently I can't tell my subordinates to just leave well enough alone." And then the fact that I can't just outright tell the man to put a lid on every little opinion he has. Edit: Oh yeah I guess the other thing I remember from this campaign is being pushed by the invisible wall while swimming through the ship.

BF3's campaign was actually really fucking good from a storytelling perspective, but it was held back by the fact that they obviously just wrote it as an interactive movie. Zero replay value once you know what happens. Bad Company 2 was the opposite, the story was kinda meh but the sandboxes and missions were fun as hell to complete. Battlefield 4 was somehow more bland than a scripted walking section and even more linear than one.

BF3’s campaign was really good, it’s battles actually feel large scale unlike BF4, and the vehicle missions are fun. My only real issue is that it has a ton of tropes from its era. Turret sections, heavy lens flare, QTEs, edginess, etc.

4:02 For anyone wondering, DICE in fact never updated the campaign, so it is filled with these softlocking bugs and general roughness. (on PC, the FOV slider does nothing in the campaign, and there's at least three occasions in the campaign where you can get softlocked due to bugs). There's things like the helicopter scene at the beginning of the game where the grenade launcher misses the helicopter no matter what you do There's the infamous swimming section where it is impossible to swim forwards unless you pause and unpause the game There's the ladder jump you have to make on the dam level where your guy just refuses to grab the ladder This campaign sucks lmao it has moments of brilliance but it's so fucking bad overall and a complete chore to replay.

Yeah shit the swimming bug really annoyed me. Haven't played the game for four years bcs my old PC couldn't handle it and now, as i try to catch up on all BFs with my new setup it really boggled my mind that this bug is still in the game. The only part of the campaign I liked was when you were driving a minivan away from a Russian attack helicopter while Total Eclipse of the Heart played on the radio and your squad leader says something to the effect of "oh man, I can't die to this song" after you drive off the road into the water. That felt kinda goofy and fun, and then the rest of the game proceeded to take itself wayyyyy too seriously.

the most "fun" part of the singleplayer was going back some time during the game's lifecycle where shotguns 1-shot you at ridiculous ranges in MP. The guns in SP get the exact same stats as the MP, meaning that they got nerfed and buffed at the same time meaning that some parts with shotgun enemies were completely unplayable with their 100% accuracy, 1 hit kill guns not to forget the time that flashbangs lasted for like 8 or so seconds, meaning you were blind more often than not great game, DICE

I just played through the entire campaign last weekend to unlock the M249 and it's so poorly made it's hilarious. The friendly NPCs dont do any damage on hard, they get stuck in geometry, enemy NPCs spawn in front of you, mission triggers break if you go too fast. They made this campaign in a week and then try to force you to care about BF2042 because of Irish.

What’s funny is that it’s still super broken as well. Tons of game breaking bugs like falling through the elevator if you switch the UMP’s fire mode (which the game gives you a prompt to do IN the elevator), to the underwater sections breaking not allowing you to swim forward properly. It’s amazing how garbage the technical side was along with the writing/gameplay.

If you dont go exactly behind the carrier, take out all the enemy boats or spam the turbo too much, the carrier is basically a hypersonic ship that it doesn't matter how much you speed up, You can't catch it up. Battlefield 4 campaing is like a raw hamburguer, it looks tasty and it has everything, lettuce, ketchup, bacon and more. The first bite feels off but the other stuff cover it and you keep going, but as you keep eating you notice something is not right, and when you look, the meat patty is raw.

I'm so glad this video exists - downloaded the game over the Christmas weekend to kill some time and when I started playing the campaign all I thought was "am I just terrible or does everything seem so buggy?" I remember one moment where I unloaded 4 shotguns rounds into an NPC and the dude kept on moving and then threw me out. The grenades also seem to be some kind of seeker missile where the NPCs can toss them at you across the map and the daze when you get flashbanged makes your screen usless for 5 whole seconds.

Thats the problem with EA, they werent that keen in supporting the campaign, their main motivation has always been Multiplayer because they full well know and aware they couldnt immitate what activision was able to do for CoD campaign, and the Frostbite engine was a notoriously hard engine to develop game other than what it was intended to do multiplayer fps only oriented game, so developing a narrative experience was just not good. they tried doing this *again* with Anthem... and Mass Effect Andromeda 🤡

BF4 campaign's saving grace is the prison break level, because it shows that's the one where all of Dice's braincells were burnt. Plus, we got to see Dima again. But all joy evaporates as soon as you realize it will be the last time you'll ever see him. Also, wasn't that crazy that the executions could be countered? I wonder why people hated it, that's quite the pro 4D chess player move.

This campaign is hilarious, especially since I really don't think it was supposed to be funny and they really thought this shit was cool. That scene where they blow the dam while they're on it and are shocked that *GASP* they're in harm's way and we get a big spectacle cutscene where they somehow survive... I haven't laughed that hard at most actual comedies. And Irish is the answer to the question "Okay, what if you had a buddy through most of the game like Price or Woods, but they spent the whole time complaining about everything?". The real life one isn't even the prototype model from the game. The real one is essentially a cheaper-made AK-74 with more design flaws (can't clean the gas block like you can with an old 74, which is a major issue when your government issues corrosive ammo that requires constant cleaning) and some crappy chinese airsoft furniture.

I thought it was equivalent to AK47 which is very powerful but actually the AK12 is worst gun in the GAME. That's why the whole Russian Army (Yes why so many soldiers against 1 squad) got taken down by 3 or 4 guys.

My favorite memory of battlefield 3 and 4 was the gamebreaking bug i somehow got in both games where once i complete the campaign the first time, it wouldn't save any progress or show i even played it before. I would have to somehow play both games entire campaigns in one sitting if i wanted achievements or in 4's case, would never get the M249 machine gun for multiplayer for choosing irish to die. Best part I think I tried looking up fixes for this massive bug for both games and never saw anything about it

I got a glitch where I couldn't shoot the helicopter with the 40mm during the car chase. I restarted the campaign multiple times for about an hour and a half. I had to fully close the game and restart the campaign to fix it. That and the ridiculous enemies ruined most of it for me.

literally the only reason you ever come back to the BF4 campaign is for the multiplayer unlocks. And even then, you gotta pray the game doesn't bug out and either reset your campaign progress or just not award you your weapon. (Speaking from experience, I still only got the P90 unlocked)

Gotta say in retrospective the BF4 campaign was bloody great especially playing it and finishing it in 2021 a year after all the events happen and just how close some aspects of the world got mirrored as tensions with China and America skyrocketed and they would become definite enemies if a war was to break out.

Irish makes the campaign almost unplayable for me by himself. I *hate* Irish. He is, imo, the worst soldier character in any game I have ever played. I did not hesitate to send him to his death at the end of the campaign. The US military is probably all the better for it. Honestly, the campaign isnt that great even without him. I played the campaign only twice. With BF3 I still go back every now and then to play certain missions for fun and the nostalgia.

This campaign was so bad I thought it was just a fever dream because I first played it when I was too sick to go to school. Went back to it last year and it was just as bad as I remember. The hardest part for me was trying to decide who to sacrifice at the end of the game, because I really wanted both female captain Price and Irish to die.

In what regard? Both Bad Company games are critically lauded for their campaigns. 3, while not as critically acclaimed, was still considered quite a good campaign (especially for its time) 1942, Vietnam, and 2 I guess are "bad" only in sense that they don't actually have campaigns but vs-the-ai single player modes. Or at least 1942 and 2 do. Never played Vietnam but its in between those two so I'll just assume it does. Modern Combat was the first game to have a traditional campaign, which I admit was lackluster, but maybe ok for its day. 2142 went back to the traditional "Single player is just multiplayer with bots" style. So, barring the games that literally didn't have them (the side games I don't include because they are all multiplayer only); the only real standout as a "bad" campaign prior to 4 was Modern Combat. I agree they were on a serious downward spiral from 4 onward, but prior to that for the games that had them the campaigns were pretty great.

Yeah... This campaign really, really blows. Think about it: it's set during a three way Chinese, Russia, and USA modern war. To my knowledge, there are no other FPS single player campaigns that do that. They could have had MASSIVE battles, but instead we follow a boring squad of dudes (I assume they are spec ops given the assignments, but it's literally never clarified what they are) doing small scale work. We only ever briefly touch on the scale of the conflict and see friendly units a handful of times in the campaign, and you can count the number of times you have NPCs that aren't your boring squad fighting alongside you on a few fingers. And let's not even mention the fact that in such a short campaign they managed to reuse their boring aircraft carrier set MULTIPLE times. AND let's not forget to mention that your allied NPCs literally cannot do any damage to enemies whatsoever, making them entirely pointless and shattering any remaining illusion the game had. Every single enemy onscreen in this game will be up to you to kill. Just... Fuck man. Battlefield 3 is unironically a hidden gem FPS campaign from back then. To see such a shit followup has always bummed me out.

For a series that prides itself on large scale MP battles this campaign sure has none of that. Any friendly allies you see that aren’t apart of your squad either instantly disappear or just die, it doesn’t feel like a large scale conflict at all. The Singapore mission is the best example of this, it’s hyped up like this massive operation, but outside of a beach landing sequence (which itself is small), it’s just you and your 3 other squad mates. Everyone else just stays back, there’s no battles going on in the background or anything. It doesn’t feel like this massive war between two superpowers. Say what you want about Call of Duty campaigns, but they do scale much better.

Medal of Honor airborne next? There's only 3 good things about that game. 1: Guns level up and gain attachments mid-mission, complete with slo-mo sequence, meaning you can time it up to spray down a room with a newly-drum-magged thompson in slow motion. Very cool feeling. 2: The sniping had a unique gimmick where you had to slow-press the triggers to get more accurate shots. First time I'd seen it, very unique. 3: Some of the levels are actually quite visually nice. Especially the final one, Flakturm, which just looks metal as fuck. Also it has MW2 juggernauts in that mission, famously first used in ww2 by the germans as part of their "MW2 Spec Ops Echo Difficulty" brigade. Also, Dima was especially weird to show up. He was one of the guys chasing the warhead who got nuked in BF3. Glad to know those things only mess up your face a little.

This is my favorite modern/near future setting military shooter campaign that I've played on the eighth gen systems. It has a better weapon selection then Battlefield Hardline (which really wasn't a military shooter), and unlike the Call of Duty campaigns once you've obtained or unlocked a weapon you can use it in every level instead of being left hoping the mission designers decided to include guns you like.

the reason it gets more buggy as it goes is because 95% of players didnt make it past the third mission before giving up + realized that every time you play multiplayer your save progress gets ERASED. i stg that bug was in the game years after release and it probably still is now.

BF4’s plot is surely a disaster. I must say that this is the worst campaign I’ve ever played in FPS games. The problem of Battlefield 4’s plot about China is, she is depicted as the enemy and a country that cannot solve internal political turmoil on its own. That shouldn’t be the case in reality. If you can access mainland China’s Chinese websites, you can figure out that 99% of the Chinese players who played Battlefield 4 would bash the hell out of the campaign plot. You can also find such comments on Steam if you choose to view Chinese comments on Battlefield 4. (Given the problem of Taiwan, I will use PRC to talk about China in this case) I am not trying to push for CCP propaganda or anything, but I must say that PRC’s political structure is currently quite stable. A coup de’tat is hard to occur in PRC. Even if there is a real situation like the plot depicted in Battlefield 4, I believe the PLA and the Chinese can solve it on their own. They probably don’t need any other nation’s help, unlike President Jin Jie in the plot(who relied on the USA’s help and had to hide in the USS Valkyrie for most of the time). The real situation would not be that the entire army turns against the president. It would be some part of the army being loyal to the president and some opposed. Besides, how can Recker’s team go unhurt on their way to the Zhiyu Towers in the Shanghai campaign?? Shouldn’t the police officers guiding the building first ask them what are they for? During a time when Admiral Chang is trying to blame the west for Jin Jie’s assassination, the police should keep an eye on foreigners(presumable agents for so-called “hostile factions) Therefore, don’t feel surprised that BF4 is banned in China. No more argument that “a game doesn’t have a real threat to national security” or saying that the “Chinese are too sensitive on the campaign’s plot”. The game’s campaign pisses off both the gov and the general public. No one wants a game that depict one’s country wrong for 98%.

Still have fond memories of this though, played it through recently and I think it's still a solid 7/10. Sure, the game can be slightly glitchy sometimes, your squad-mates are next to useless, and the weapon crate system takes the tension out of any engagement, but it's still an enjoyable premise. Great memorable moments like the South China Sea mission still stay with me today, and I think the set pieces, while could have been executed a bit better (looking at you Singapore, I couldn't see shit through all that goddamn rain), stood out. I still wish it was connected to BF3 a bit more, but honestly, I don't think that BF3 was miles better than 4 by any chance. The only thing I can think of that 3 does much better than 4 is mission variety, but that's only because it wasn't through the eyes of one single player like 4 did. It's not amazing, but I'd say calling it bad is a stretch.
