I use mobcrush to multi stream with obs and it’s free I stream to YT and FB without any issues

Huge, basic functions that SO many streaming software services don't offer, and are a MUST, and I HAVE to ask if it's available before I bother with vMix: 1. Proper window capture. MUST include video playback, Chrome window capture, and proper audio capture. Window capture with Zoom allows a replication of built-in NDI. 2. Proper desktop audio capture. 3. Proper video playback. That means being able to PAUSE video, and JUMP to a position within the video. 4. REAL functionality with NO GD workarounds for Windows users. 5. Proper screen capture. And without a separate, super-expensive video card and GPU. 6. Capacity to stream and record at 1080p 60 without $20k in processing power.

Thank you for the great comparison. I downloaded vmix 2 days ago and used it for a stream last night. The learning curve after using OBS for months wasn't too hard especially after watching your video. Understanding multiview went a long way. I'm going to keep vmix for the trial period so I can learn it and perhaps switch to it on a more permanent basis. That said the canvas building elements in OBS are still more intuitive and "better" in a way. Vmix definitely has a leg up in the way it deals with audio (buses and master mixer output), title generator and vmix social. I haven't had a chance to use the call feature but will be testing that in the coming weeks.

Great video Paul! I've been watching here and there, but this one made me subscribe :) I got the 60 days vMix free trial yesterday, and I've been a OBS user up until this point. I love the part that you can create presets with the PTZ (zoom, pan, speed etc) and on top of that, you can remotely control it all with the vMix controller having created PTZ presets. I am building a 3D dj stage and these will be a tremendous help, since I can focus on mixing the music and just hit a PTZ preset every few minutes and make the video look smooth and professional. Did you say that the PTZ options are available from the 4K version and up? Thank You!

OBS has a lot of options to stream. Click on Show All. That point was a bit misleading, though I do like how VMIX gives you some better presets for the quality settings.

Great comparison..What canon cameras are strait up NDI compatible? For example my older 1DX has an Ethernet port ive used it with canon's proprietary camera software be awesome to simply cat5 into my network. Are there any that compatible with Canon L lens? Where's this kind of NDI nerd info we need to know these things. Love the idea of going all in via NDI with the capability to changing out my L lens that we photographers already own sitting around getting dusty this past year. Thanks!!

Needed help, called to ask simple questions with using OBS with our current system (not a ptzoptics camera) and they said could/would not even offer suggestions on how to help. Sad, because our congregation is/was going to buy 2 ptzoptics cameras but we wanted to work out the bugs 1st before adding them. We feel now we will have to look elsewhere because we need a company that can help out even when at 1st it doesn't seem to benefit them.

I've never understood your bias against the Tricaster. Granted, I've been using one for over 15 years in some flavor, but in most ways I always felt it was simply "easier" when I taught people each of the different budget options. Open the box, plug in cameras, you're good to go. And many of the live effects still are best/broadcast quality on NewTek that are "okay" in vmix. But NewTek has maybe lost itself recently. It's lower end market has disappeared to vmix. NDI, while amazing, means that second Tricaster isn't necessary when you can set up inexpensive inputs using OBS. A birddog is nice, but an old laptop and USB encoder can get me that one time remote shot from the roof I need for a whole lot less. That doesn't mean it's hard to use or a steep learning curve though. I disagree with your graphic. After 27 years of video and IT, I'm unemployed for the first time. I don't have my 4k cameras, my Tricasters, or my Adobe licenses. My vmix sits on the $4000 Threadripper that probably is being repurposed for the esports team because nobody else will do this work. As I freelance helping churches we're not buying NewTek. We're using OBS just to get on the air. The "barrier to entry" is low. For under $2000 a church can be up and running quickly. But I have to say, looking at the atem mini pro, (haven't actually touched one yet), it may be an even easier entry level device if we could get it. Thanks again for another great video Paul. Been fun watching you grow and kick butt these past few years.

I installed and used vmix (free version) for an event , i sent the camera feed to a splitter and one output from splitter goes to a screen, while the second output goes into vmix, on vmix the preview screen shows some lag, the latency is high , what can be done to reduce this. The camera is panasonic MDH2 (1080P 59.99P) .

Did you enable the graphics card in the settings? There is also an option for optimize for low latency.
@VoiceOutTV4 жыл бұрын
@@StreamGeeks I did not initially, so i went back to Vmix and selected the 750 GTX graphics card, i selected optimize for low latency, it improved but the picture is still not smooth, i also went to graphics card control panel to adjust the performance settings in "Manage 3D settings" . I am still hoping to have a smooth video. The render time is between 1ms and 2ms at the bottom left corner of Vmix.

@@StreamGeeks I have known nothing about vMix but will take a look. I have been producing the Wednesday Night Lab Session at Bird's in Tallahassee, Florida for over 6 years now, but was, as we all were, obliged to take it online on March 18. Since then, I have continued to produce a weekly show on Facebook Live, starting with the webcam on my business laptop, then purchasing a webcam (a bit hard to come by these days due to the demand) that I could plug into my music production system, but I was still limited to playing live in front of the webcam. I started experimenting with OBS for week 3 but it turned out that I needed an Internet upgrade before I could make use of it. In my rural location I was lucky to be able to get 60/5 mbps service, so the April 15, online show #5 was my first use of OBS. I like to get my friends to send me videos of them playing a song, then I play bass live with them during my show. So of course the sync issues are paramount. I am still trying to understand exactly how that works - if the vMix sync is truly automatic, that could be a significant advantage. In the mean time I have been learning more about OBS and with show #9 last week finally got it looking pretty damn fine. A TV producer friend of mine actually called me up to congratulate me on it. SO, everything I know about live streaming I have learned in the past 10 weeks. I really appreciate you guys and the work you are doing. Thanks again. It's all about latency of your ISP! look up the specs that are required for streaming to whomever you'll be using, then go to speedtest.net, click on settings and choose kbps and choose either multiple or single test. Be advised if you are using wireless, your speed will vary!! and if other folks are using the wireless router when you are streaming, you'll have major latency!! Pony Up and install CAT6 if you plan on this being used for business in the future.

Really appreciate these great videos. Like many, I'm a pastor who's learned this stuff in the last few weeks. We run a live service on KZbin via OBS, dropping in multiple pre-recorded elements. My big question - is there any way for a) video timer information, and (especially) b) playback controls within OBS? It's very unsettling (considering e.g. a 15 minute sermon video) knowing video can only play from the start - especially in light of our first OBS crash we had last Sunday! I've figured out a workaround (cropped window capture with streamed sermon ready to go) I'll have available for next time - but it seems crazy that you can only hit "go" on an OBS video and that's it. Is that right? Thanks again for the great content
@StreamGeeks4 жыл бұрын
Martin J Clarke - Hi Martin, we are always open to helping and we have the book listed about on OBS. If you are hoping to stream a pre-recorded video, perhaps a KZbin or Facebook Premier is a better approach?
@martinjclarke4 жыл бұрын
@@StreamGeeks thanks for the reply - sorry I wasn't clear. We are doing Live services but then dropping in pre-recorded videos as part of that live service. My concern is not being able to control those videos once that scene has gone live - there are no playback controls - so if something goes wrong, you have to go back to start of video.
@MattSmithTOFY4 жыл бұрын
Martin, use a standard video player, like VLC and then add it as a source in OBS. You can control the video the way you normally would, but your viewers won't notice.

You lost me when you called Vmix "Photoshop" for video. OBS is Photoshop for video. Vmix is like a windows photo editor from 1995. I have yet to find a single reason to choose VMix over OBS other than people not know what OBS can do and; "It costs money so it must be better". "VMix's interface is one of the best in the world" Bwahahahahahhahahahaa!!!... Oh wait.. you're serious.. Dude.. OBS looks and works like a modern software. VMix works and feels like it's from 1995. Gaudy colours, no click and drag usability, hidden confusing options and menus. I swear. It's like y'all are using a different version of Vmix than I have. Yeah.. OBS has those scene thumbnails you can click too. Seriously man.. have you used OBS?

No offence...but I think you don't have very good knowledge about VST. The VST3 audio plugin standard offers very little to no advantage over VST2 in this use case. In fact, it could easily be seen as more of a detriment than a plus that vMix only supports VST3 rather than VST2. Why? Because adoption of VST3 has been famously slow due to the added complexity vs (lack of) advantage over VST 2.4. The VST 3 standard was released 13 years ago and only 2 years ago did arguably the most widely adopted DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software - Ableton Live - even bother to support it. Practically all plugins are available as VST 2, but the same can't be said for VST 3 yet. Audio-quality-wise, no advantage. Compatibility-wise, VST 2 still holds the crown.
