Something I found out: If you ditch the regular gain filter, subtract the noise profile, and then use the output gain on the right side of the subtractive equalizer to raise your mic volume, you'll have much better results. Basically, the regular gain also boosts the signal of any unwanted sound going to your microphone, which results in more frequencies being cut out by the equalizer and thus lower voice quality. The second option cuts out the noise first, making everything better.

@MaelstromALPHA5 жыл бұрын
You can tailor it to your own set up for sure. Different mics will get different results :) The compressors job is to bring your quieter moments up in volume while reducing your louder moments, giving you a smaller dynamic range. This will help save your audience from audio that's too quiet or getting their ears exploded if you suddenly shout (which I'm very liable to do!). If you find you don't need it (you naturally talk at a pretty standard volume) then it can be left out :)

I cannot hear my voice when I set the Noise Removal because my fan is so close to me, is there a way?
@MaelstromALPHA4 жыл бұрын
If your fan takes up too much of the frequency of your voice.. sadly, there is not much you can do except turn off the fan (or move it further away). The noise removal plugin doesn't distinguish between voice and background noise inherently and will just remove all noise in those frequencies as aggressively as possible. An alternative option (if you have an Nvidia card) is taking a look at the "RTX Voice" program they put out recently. You actually don't need an RTX card to use this program and it should do a better job of removing your fan noise than the reaplugs noise removal (although at the cost of a little bit of GPU power).

@MaelstromALPHA4 жыл бұрын
Hi there! There are a couple of things to do to check you have the plugins installed correctly. First, if you're using 32-bit OBS or 64-bit OBS, you need to make sure the version of Reaplugs that you download match that version, otherwise they will be incompatible and won't appear. Secondly, make sure you install the plugins to the default location (this should be "C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins\Reaplugs"). if you installed it anywhere else, you will need to move them into this folder for OBS to pick them up properly. Hope this helps!

So after you setup all the filters if you happen to lower the mic/aux main volume on the obs mixer tab because maybe the volume is slightly too loud on the capture video, does this throw out all the filters you have just set up?
@MaelstromALPHA5 жыл бұрын
Lowering the mic audio on the OBS mixer is basically the "final point" of adjusting the outgoing audio to the stream/recording, so changing the level here will have no negative effects on the filters/settings :)

If you follow this guide, it will only apply the microphone settings for OBS. However, you can download a go between program (such as "VST Host" or "Cantabile Lite") and apply all of the effects on there instead (the settings from the tutorial still apply, just it will be in a different program than OBS). If you do it this way, the microphone settings will be changed for all applications. Hope that helps!

Oh, strange.. it should be there! Make sure you're up to date on OBS Studio too (current version is 23.2.1). You might not need it though, it largely depends on how loud you get. I tend to shout from time to time while streaming, so a limiter stops my audience from getting their ears blown out :)

Excellent thank you. 1 question: My voice ends up a little 'metallic tubish' is the best way I can describe it. It's sort of a reverb but with the prior qualities I just mentioned. Where do you think I could be off?
@MaelstromALPHA4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words :) Usually, if after applying this effects chain your voice ends up sounding "metallic", it's to do with how much background noise is having to be removed and how that affects the overall quality of your voice. Sadly, if you are in a noisy environment or your microphone picks up too much background noise over your voice, there isn't too much you can do to remove this metallicness. :( I did suggest to someone else in the comments that if the noise removal plugin from reaper doesn't do a good enough job (or produces unwanted metallic/tinniness) then a good alternative is using the Nvidia RTX Voice application to remove your noise before you apply any other effects to the microphone. Bear in mind however, you need to have a fairly recent (9/10/20 series) Nvidia graphics card to use this software.. and it might have a slight impact on your GPUs performance while running. If you fulfil the requirements for it, it's worth a shot though! 👍

@MaelstromALPHA4 жыл бұрын
You're not wrong. Sadly, it's one of the trade offs when "processing" your voice that it will sound less natural.. but the benefits are a more balanced dynamic range, less background noise etc. Your mileage also may vary depending on your environment and quality of mic.

my voice has an "echo: any tips?
@MaelstromALPHA4 жыл бұрын
The first and most simple thing is to make sure you're not doubling up on your microphone somehow. Make sure you don't have the microphone set to come through on 2 different devices through OBS, or make sure that you haven't got OBS set to "monitor and output" the sound from your microphone. You can do this by right clicking anywhere on the "Audio Mixer" in OBS and select "Advanced Audio Properties". If it's not the case of multiple instances of your microphone or accidental monitoring producing the echo, the problem becomes a little more tricky to solve. Reducing echo through plugins is sadly much more difficult than it may seem at first, but there are some plugin solutions available online.. but none I could find for free at a cursory glance. An example would be the "SPL De-Verb Plus" VST 2.x plugin (www.plugin-alliance.com/en/products/spl_de-verb_plus.html). This plugin will be compatible with OBS, but only has a 14 day trial and actually costs $50.. I also can't speak for it's effectiveness so i'd suggest trying out the free trial to see if it works for you if you go this route. The best way to treat echo (and most sound issues) is at the source.. so if you're in a room with a lot of echo/reverberation you may want to look into getting some sound dampening foam for the space to reduce that reverberation. I hope this helps!

My noise suppression makes everything sound alien like
@MaelstromALPHA4 жыл бұрын
Noise suppression can only do so much and the harder it has to work, the more it will distort your voice. Ideally you need to stop the noise at the source (turn off a fan if it's too loud, don't have the mic so close to a PC etc) if the noise suppression distorts your voice too much. Otherwise, there are other software options available other than reafir for noise removal (if you have a fairly recent Nvidia GPU, consider RTX voice).

There are a few things I can think of to check. First off, are you using 32-bit or 64-bit OBS Studio? Depending on which version you're running, make sure you install the correct version of Reaplugs (32/64 bit). Second, have you installed the plugins to the default install location, or somewhere different? I think you can change where OBS searches for VST plugins in the settings (I might be wrong about this, I can't remember) but I suggest installing them to the default install location for ease of use. If they still aren't showing up then reply back and i'll see if I can think of anything else, but hopefully you got this sorted! 👍

One suggestion I can think of (if you can't get it working) is to download a program like Cantabile Lite, or VSThost and do all your microphone effects there before it reaches OBS, but it does mean you'll need to run a separate program along with your Streamlabs OBS all the time.
