Just my 2 cents but I think the refilling mechanic of fludd also helps alleviate frustration: when you fail a platforming session you usually fall into water. That way you can refill fludd and failure is no longer an absolute negative

@@frogvibesgames Fun Fact: Miyamoto did gain some 3d experience thanks to Starfox.

That’s the first time I’ve heard someone point out the relative high fidelity of Mario’s head may anchor an image of Mario in the players mind, before shifting to simpler models.
@frogvibesgames8 ай бұрын
Having been a kid when playing the game, that title screen always felt like "Mario". Additionally, when playing the game, you only see the back of his head most of the time. Giving you a good look at the guy is something they brought back in Odyssey, which I completely forgot to point out. Though it is more subtle there.

The mario face starting screen in mario 64 is the first time you use the control stick, and its easier to understand then moving mario around. Thats probably one of the main reasons it was so important to keep at the start

The way you do you the music in these videos is probably the best I've ever seen on youtube, the way it seemlessly transitions from one theme to another is stellar, and it all sounds so coherent
@IlSharmouta8 ай бұрын
I like Odyssey's optional motion controls. Each capture usually does something special when you shake the remote, but I'm sure they realized people don't like motion controls so they're never required. You're never pushed to feel like you need to, but for the people that like to, they give a fun little bonus.
@frogvibesgames8 ай бұрын
That's a subtle way of accommodating more types of players. I remember when we all got that shake reflex from New Super Mario Bros. Wii. I'd be shaking my DS and mess up the screen.
@Hegaems8 ай бұрын
Some special moves require shaking the controller, when they could have been mapped to buttons other than A and B. Nintendo still forced motion controls if you want the full moveset

No matter what kind of 3D it is, _game feel_ to me is essential in getting a player motivated to goof around in a space There’s nothing quite like cramping your hands on a 3DS to do a fast Rolling Long Jump …Likewise, flexible movement options! They’re stupidly fun for anyone, just because any one game isn’t totally designed to have you master all of them Plus, you still have the option to string a bunch of moves together if you want to go fast, or just have fun exploring a space A strong blend of silly _and_ stylish
@frogvibesgames8 ай бұрын
Good points! Replaying all these games one after another highlighted the subtle changes in their movement. I don't think any is superior, yet each movement system fits the goals of its game. Really interesting topic.

15:40 switch actually outputs 1080p when on tv which is why it goes black for a second when putting it in and out the dock. It's switching, and most games automatically know to use a higher res version for tv. Some games even run at 30fps on handheld mode, like a hat in time

I wonder if the UI is like that for accessibility reasons; less gradients to help with visibility as well as distinct colors that shouldn't overlap with color blindness? Could also just be a design language they're going for across games, but this doesn't seem right to me.

It is not ideal, but it is understandable that you missed Super Mario 64 DS and Bowsers Fury, but Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Super Mario 3D Land are mainline games, and they shouldnt be ignored. The sections in the video were good, there are just a few sections missing. Maybe remaster the video with the other 2 mainline 3d Mario games. That would increase the quality of the video substantially. Just to clarify, I am not being hateful. This is just constructive criticism.
