Love this video, Rahdo! I know it's old but I've only just jumped on this train and your video has me so pumped for my copy arriving. I hesistated buying this game for a long time because all the playthroughs on KZbin didn't give the impression that I would like it. Now that I have it, I can say it is really a lot of fun and can be recommended highly.

What would you say the complexity is (BGG scale)? Can you compare it's complexity with some your top Eurogames?

I have the 2nd ed and the cards are so much harder to read and understand then the first ed. Too bad the change was made. It's hard to get it to the table and the RULE BOOK!!!!! OMG is that a terrible rule book! Complete gibberish. The run through is smoothing out some things

Unlike my sister who loves period drama shows, I hate them, especially when the theme is about British aristocracy as I find the characters boring and obnoxious. In fact the only 2 shows I liked that were close to that theme was Black Sails and Taboo, so I come into this already disliking the theme. Why do I care about what happens to 2 (formerly) rich kids? So with that out of the way, let's talk about the game. Is this a prototype or the final version of the board/components? I think I would find it more interesting if the art was colored and didn't look like black/white photos of that era. If the theme is boring, why can't at least the art be interesting? The board also needs some work. Too many straight lines and muted colors, unless they are going for this aesthetic. The round track would be nicer if it was represented by a maze instead of a boring looking track underneath the mansion. After all, didn't these people liked intricate gardens back then? I was going to mention that they would probably not have to hire servants because the British had slaves then, but I checked and the game takes place in 1840, a few years after slavery was abolished in the British Empire (1833). I wonder if the creators chose 1840 so that they did not have to use slaves.

I can do with some fine Jane Austen, but yes, the richy aristocratic thing gets a bit old, but in game form it hasn't been presented quite like this perchance.

Yes slavery was abolished in the British Empire in 1833, but there was no slavery in Britain itself before that date. Any slave who landed on British soil was immediately freed.

cartoon80s90s, there were never slaves in England. Also, there have always been paid servants, in the US as well. Most rich white people in North America even used servants instead of slaves in the 19th century, so your final point is quite redundant.

The funny thing is that I’m pretty sure Jane Austen would have hated this game. Her books harshly criticize the politics and conniving people took part in in those days. This culture (much earlier than the era of this game-around 1810) saw marriage as an opportunity to improve the positions of the family (especially that of a daughter because that’s the only money she could ever bring in) and not really caring about if their daughter/son actually likes the prospective husband/wife. As well, it created a culture where young women were financial burdens if they were not married off because they were only raised to be wives and not allowed to be much else.
