Excellent production and presentation! Could you compare it with other pirate games? I am interested in having a pirate themed game in my collection but having a hard time picking.

well, i did a top10 pirate games video a few years ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHyri4KLnJ2miJI but that's obviously out of date since we've had a torrent of them recently. beyond that, i couldn't say because i haven't actually played it, because i have zero designer to rifle and pillage and loot other players, which is a big part of this game. supposedly the designer is working on a 2p co-op variant though, which definitely piques my interest! :)

@@rahdo For my part, i own 10 pirate games. My #1 is Merchants & Marauders, my #2 is Black Fleet, and the rest of them hover at around #4197 because they all stink! My collection includes Rattle, Battle, Grab the Loot, Pirates of the 7 Seas, Pirate's Cove, Piratoons, Jamaica, Jamaica: The Crew, and Dark Seas. i really enjoyed Dead Reckoning, and it's up there with M&M (though a very different game), but DR is mechanically better - it doesn't have the port downtime issue that M&M has - while M&M oozes far more piratey theme. i'm not huge on the combat implementation in either game tbh.

nope, i passed on covering it becasue of all the player vs player attacking there was. however, the designer has since said he's working on co-op rules, and if i'd known that, i probably would have been all over it!

Would love to see this game come out in retail? Any word on that? Plus if I did have to make one change to this game, it would be the combat. I would love to see a Dune like combat or even some chance die! Maybe you earn dice with different sides for the upgrades on your cards…

What do you think the difficulty/weight of this game is?

Oooh! Good question. i'm reluctant to put a number to it, because that's weird, but i can maybe compare it to other games with a similar vibe? If Clank! is Dominion + a board, then Dead Reckoning is Mystic Vale + a board. i would say it's maybe somewhat more complicated than Concordia. You have a similar crop of actions you can perform, and a similar number of cards in the "shop" to choose from, but while Concordia has you playing only one card from your hand, you can play up to 6 (or more, if you control certain islands) in Dead Reckoning. That's when the decision space gets more challenging to manage: when your card draw and hand limit both go up as the game progresses. Combat is much less picky than in Merchants & Marauders, so it's far easier to start and finish fights, and deciding *whether* to fight is a lot more straightforward.

@@hudeduge9240 I get your point, but that's not my reason: I find it distracting and I dislike repeatedly being told what I should think about the game (like when a KS project keeps telling me that the game is fun, quick-playing or innovative). The whole point of Rahdo's approach has always been about "I'll show you how it plays, you decide whether you like that gameplay". This (it seems to me) steps outside that remit.

mccrispy Rahdo brought in Ryan to do what Ryan does. Ryan is not expected to clone Rahdo’s style. It’s ok that it’s not your thing. If you look at Ryan’s channel, he’s taught Concordia in a toga, Trickerion in a magicians outfit, Great Western Trail in a cowboy hat. It’s part of his shtick.
