I was diagnosed with OCD as a teenager but never really understood why because I don't have any rituals but I do isolate and avoid situations and people when overwhelmed. You describing your experiences has helped me understand my OCD better. Thank you! 🌻

OCD is a double edged sword for me. On the one hand, it’ll make me stand in front of my bathroom room pulling my own hair out for an hour, but on the other, it allows me to meticulously work on a song im writing for hours until I finish it. The anxiety never goes away though, meds take a major edge off, but it’s always there

Yeah it is hard, I used to think that it was good because it drove my perfectionism, I didn’t realize the perfectionism was part of the problem as well. It’s amazing that you write music! I am learning piano on my own and it’s slow going!

I recently figured out that I have OCD, and things I've been doing that are because of my OCD is that I always make sure my room looks clean and not messy and I clean the house frequently because of it. I always thought I was just an "organized" person, but after having a discussion about it with my older brother, I knew it was OCD and not that I was just an organized person. I also have anxiety when there's something stressful going on, and that causes me to bite the inside of my mouth.

Hi Claire, firstly it takes guts to talk about OCD openly. So thank you. I have Contamination OCD, and presently awaiting intensive therapy.....again. You spoke many truths to me and to an extent it's a secret language that only personal experience can fully comprehend. This of course is why it is trivialised, misunderstood and often cast aside. For me Covid19 strengthened my OCD to the point my previous coping mechanisms failed me. It is true our lives are often taken way from us, trapped in a world others notice but don't know why or how to understand. However we do have hope and help and importantly have the support of those dearest of friends and family who stand by us. Thanks for your honesty.

Hi Dickie thank you for your comment, I totally get what you mean. When lockdown started my OCD group joked that we had been training for this our whole lives lol. It is so hard to know what the line in between safe and actually OCD. I hope you get help again soon I know that it takes a long time to get off a waiting list sometimes.

I think that most people suffer from some form of OCD, we all have things that are obsessive. What I think is important to remember is that OCD does not only mean compulsive cleaning or hand washing. We can have compulsions in our thoughts or seemingly mundane behaviors. We must be sensitive to that....just because someone else's OCD does not fit our description does not mean that it does not exist. The internal battle can be debilitating.

Yes most people can go through some ocd tendencies or symptoms. A disorder is when it crosses the line into effecting your ability to function

It's helpful hearing experiences of other people. OCD is part of my life but, like my autism, I have to mask it. Mental health has poor consideration. I never had any compassion or understanding for my "quirky behaviour". I hope you'll reach 1000 subscribers very soon. You deserve it.

I have help cleaning the house because I would spend eight hours a day cleaning my toilet because it had to be cleaned in a certain way. If that way didn’t succeed even after eight hours I would spend time in bed thinking about it. Having ADHD and OCD most really be a thrill. Giving in to OCD gives you dopamine ADHD is craving this dopamine vicious cycle?
